Legendary

A friend of mine who went to school in Rochester learned that I was visiting and highly recommended that I give the famed "Garbage Plate" a shot. He called it the ultimate drunk food. He just might be right.

Classic old style burger joint with unique local dish. Everyone seems to like the cheeseburger garbage plate. We had the white hot plate, which was pretty good. If you don't want to leave feeling too stuffed, I'd recommend sharing a garbage plate and just getting a side. It's a lot of food for lunch.

I'd had other garbage plates, but never the original. I'd been wanting to go to Nick Tahou's to see where it all started, and finally got a chance to do just that. I had the red hots with mac salad and potatoes. Mustard, onions, and their famous hot sauce topped it off. Delicious!

Pathetic. Locals swear by the place, simply because of tradition and longevity. Congealed grease glistening among the slurry of slop is presented on paper plates in a location so crime ridden, even this former 24-hour hangout for drunks, streetwalkers and drugged urchins had to close up shop late at night. At least it might give the staff some time to... More

We are new residents in the Rochester area, and were advised to try a Rochester special - The Garbage Plate. So naturally we headed to the "home" of the Garbage Plate - Nick Tahou's- and we were not disappointed. We tried both a cheeseburger garbage plate and a hotdog garbage plate and loved both! A fun funky atmosphere in a... More

Before going to Rochester for the first time I did as I always try to do. I try to see what local food is the "must have." That's when I learned about the Garbage Plate. Numerous people told me I should try one when I was there, so I knew I had to. When looking up the dish, I learned... More

We were told by a local about this place; otherwise, we might not have found it. I did not want a garbage plate, and I was picky about the preparation of my hamburger--grilled, not raw, onions and no hot sauce--but the server was friendly and accommodating. As a result, I enjoyed a scrumptious lunch. It was interesting to hear that... More

We stopped here for lunch on our way to the Catskills - agree with many reviews that say don't let the appearance stop you! It's not gourmet, but a fun stop for fast food. We had a garbage plate and pizza logs to share between 2 people. You don't think the combination of macaroni salad, home fries, cheeseburger, mustard and... More

No visit to Rochester New York would be complete without a visit to Nick Tahou's Hots, home of the world famous "Garbage Plate" I never travel through here without stopping. Don't let the outside appearance fool you, the food is great and this will be an experience you will be telling your friends about for a long time.

So the claim to fame here is the garbage plate. For people not from the area, a garbage plate is essentially everything you would have in a normal meal smashed/piled together in a mess of grease, cheese, meat, and fries. They also have a spicy meat sauce that is guaranteed to give your bowels nightmares. I lived in upstate NY... More
