We had been to Rooney's a few times in the past, the distant past. We just got caught up in other resturants in town and......... We are glad to have rediscovered them. My wife built an entree from the appetizer selections, it surpassed her expectations. The shrimp were excellent , and the accompanying sides added nicely to the dish. My... More

Had dinner here late on a Sunday evening. It was a relaxing meal. I ordered a glass of Shiraz which was a bit too acid for my taste, so they swapped for another red which was very pleasant. The chef from Lyon was working that evening. I had the salad lyonnaise which was perfect and quite amazing. I also had... More

I went to Rooney's this week and it's been a while since I've been there. I took some work colleagues there for a unique Rochester experience. We had a fine time and enjoyed the food & drink but the restaurant wasn't as impressive as it once was. The decor on the interior needs a refresh, as well as the menu... More

A building from the 1800s with history of being a brothel, a saloon. It's been err a while and it's got some stories. Its been the restaurant for about 30 years. Service is excellent. Joe, the bar tender is friendly and courteous. Food was amazing. The lamb was soft and very tasteful. Large portion so account the great bread. Great... More

We had the open face seafood ravioli, crabcake app's ...to die for. We also had the scallops , duck & beef...all cooked to perfection. Salads nice & crisp. The fireplace was going, great... More

I was excited to try Rooneys after reading so many rave reviews but was disappointed by the food and atmosphere. It was fairly noisy and the food was very dry. I ordered the mixed grill and while the house-made sausage was nice the entire platter was very dry. My companion ordered a mushroom pasta dish which was just ok.

We have been going to Rooney's for special occasions for over 20 years and believe it to still be one of the top 5 "fine dining" restaurants in Rochester. Many of the dishes now lean toward "classic continental" rather than "cutting edge" but are always excellently prepared and presented. On a recent visit over the holidays both the seared scallops... Excellent menu choices. Fair # of appetizers; same for salads(sorry that no salad comes as part of the pricey entrees). Being hungy, my daughter and I split a mixed greens salad, which wasn't anything special at all...not enough dressing; and the mixed greens were somewhat wilted. should have sent that back(but it was my birthday and didn't want to cause... We forgot about this place for years but have just gone twice in the last week with two different couples. So between the 8 meals over the two visits everyone's meal was great. The wine list is very good and the waiter gave us very good recommendations based upon our tastes. Service is superb. We have been looking for a... More
