Quaint Italian Restaurant – Osteria Rocco - Old-Time Charm

When traveling to Rochester for work, I had contacted friends who reside in this city to see if they would join me for dinner. They selected one of their favorite Italian restaurants, Osteria Rocco, which was fairly close to my hotel. As we arrived, I noticed the unassuming exterior and... read more

Rocco is not only our go-to after work on a Tuesday, our favorite Valentine's day date-night, a place where they greet us (and all the other customers) when we walk in the door, and our favorite patio lunch in the summertime, it is hands down the best food, best, most professional service in the whole city, if not all of... Finally visited Rocco's last evening. Although I live 90 miles away, I have had the good fortune to visit some great Rochester establishments in the past 10 months. Rocco's may be the best. Having dined at Tony D's, Max's Chophouse, the Park Avenue Pub, Lento's, and more - I recently heard about this Rochester landmark. I am a chef and... More

My go to when I'm craving good Italian. You can't go on a budget, and it really helps to plan in advance with a reservation as the dining room is small. Every dish on the menu tastes great. Our party usually orders something different and shares. Great wine selections.

Good Job, Al S. You've written an indictment of a sizable chunk of the service industry as a whole in this country. I'm not sure if this was your intention, but you have certainly ripped the lid off of the secret that is the employment of "immigrants" in commercial kitchens. I have personally spent a substantial amount of time dining... More

The restaurant came highly recommended, but we were not overly impressed. We had the homemade ricotta with charred bread as an appetizer. Ricotta is always mild, but this was surprisingly so, and the kitchen went a little far on the charring of the bread. Our entrees were good but not outstanding. The highlight of the meal was the butterscotch budino... More

First things first, I know you aren't supposed to start with dessert but I will! You must try the butterscotch budino! It is the best dessert you could possibly imagine! A panna cottta style butterscotch pudding with floating toasted almonds in a rich and delectable hot caramel sauce, outstanding! Next on to the appetizers, I have a few favorites here,... More

4 different meals, all 4 good. We only fot main courses and salads - each are big enough that you don't want to get the typical Italian multi-course meal - just too much food. Also too many servers and no consistency. We were at the worst table - right in front of the kitchen's swinging door. But again, the food... More

Even though our salads were fresh and delicious, we experienced some negatives: We asked for lemon for our water and later found out we were charged for the lemon. We were not told that was their policy. We paid $3.00 for a small cup of coffee. No refills were offered. The bill was placed on our table although we didn't... More
