Screaming chef!!

My wife and I dined here on a whim and what an unlucky whim it was. The place looks so nice, the menu looked fantastic, the service was great. But then we got our food, we like to order many courses and spend out time with our food, obviously the chef does not care about his customers enjoying... read more

Don't even know where to start? The bruschetta and chicken liver? The pasta? Bolgnese? Arrabiata? Fra diavoli? Tiramisu? Olive oil? Do you keep it a secret or shout from the hilltop?

We arrived on a Saturday night and the place was filled and animated. Fortunately we had a reservation and were seated within a few minutes. We felt the ambiance was warm and cozy and were anticipating a wonderful meal. All changed when the waitress arrived. When we asked about the specials, she pointed to the menu on our table and... Some friends and I recently had a terrible experience here. We arrived on time for our reservation, but we were seated at the door and under a considerable draft. Even though there were plenty of empty tables, we were very reluctantly relocated. Our server was unprofessional, haughty and she was rude to one of her co-workers in our presence. I... More

This was actually my, the owner's, response to your complaint, word for word, it differs from how you characterize it in your review. We did in fact receive your email and have also received your fax. My husband and I own the restaurant and we are very sorry that you had an unfavorable experience at Mercato, it is obviously upsetting... More

Mercato not only has divine cuisine made with the freshest of ingredients, but the menu is always creative, featuring marvellous specials and homemade pasta. If you love Italian food, and you are anywhere near Red Hook in the Hudson Valley, Mercato is a must!

I started off with a lovely arugula salad, perfectly dressed. I opted for the penne arrabiata, which was good, but not as tasty as I would have expected; I expected it to be a bit more spicy. Our server seemed to be new, although quite inattentive to our table. I was very surprised, since I had heard this was such... More

We recently dined at Mercato on a Sunday evening. The service was HORRIBLE! Admittedly it was rather late (8 PM) but they were out of all seafood on the menu. This fact was announced by our server as though we were at fault, with no hint of apology. One meal, a roasted chicken dish offered to replace the absent seafood,... More

We ate at Mercato 2 nights in a row and really enjoyed both meals. The food is basically Italian but more creative than the regular fare. The starters include interesting salad combinations, yummy octopus and a perfect caprese with local heritage tomatoes. Main dishes include several pasta choices and meat options. I had the risotto on the first night which... More

We were looking for a nice place for dinner after a performance at Bard College's music festival that would actually be on our route home (in lower Westchester County). Mercato met both criteria nicely, though it was more casual than I expected and a lot noisier than we would have liked. Conversation was difficult, especially as more and more people... More

All to often, we; I, tend to only submit reviews only when traveling yet overlook the very places that make living in my area, NY's Hudson Valley, a most wonderful experience on a daily basis. Mercato - Osteria & Enoteca is just that place. Chef Buitoni wouldn't have it any other way. He clearly enjoys preparing the most delicious Italian... More
