Great for hungry, weary travelers!

Stopped in for a late dinner after being on the road for 9 hours to visit Bard Conservatory. Food was great, ambiance cozy, and the staff super fantastic.

An institution for about 20 years, this place deserves its accolades. Terrific corn bread to start, a big frie dly bar, and good variety on the menu. But its the ribs. Share a rack, revel in the grits and collard greens.

Great hospitality from manager Dan. Best ribs. Not drenched in barbecue sauce. Just plain smoked ribs at it's best.

Years ago I would take my family to Max's and always had a fantastic meal. However recently I've gone with friends two separate occasions and while the food was great, the service was so poor I don't think we will head back for a while. I wonder if the difference was being in the bar, where we were, instead of... More

Restaurant served delicious southern style barbecue - the pulled pork, brisket, ribs, cheese grits, crispy potatoes (fries) were all excellent!

Once upon a time Max's was a reliable place to land for a burger, ribs, pulled pork and a drink. Servers were top notch and well trained. Not so anymore. Ribs were very tough ,sauces were unrefined, sides were blah . Our server spilled a sizable pile of BBQ sauce on the side of a dinner plate came back and... More

The sign says best BBQ in the Hudson Valley- I haven't been to many more so I can't say whether this is true, but I have been to a lot of BBQ elsewhere and this is really very good food. Curiously eating BBQ when it's snowing outside and you're tired from a long day in the cold gives it a... More

Came here with a group of friends for a gathering. Bar was full of bourbon selection, great draft availability and the bartender was welcoming. To top it off, the brisket and the beacon is top notch quality, 2 thumbs up, licking fingers!

Nice atmosphere, we like the decor, modern but cozy food is very good, if you don't, like me, go for smoked, there are many other options. mixture of people, popular with Bard students and locals
