One gets what they pay for, and this place is no different. Sure, the food prices are incredibly low, but so is the quality. And if this is supposed to be an Irish bar, how is it that the Guinness stout tastes as if it were made in Mexico? Somebody should clean the lines every century or two because when... More

Go casual, jeans casual. It could get a bit messy. It is confusing the first time, ask for "how to" at the bar. It is noisy, crowded, busy. Not good for conversation unless you are shouting. The lobster wasn't huge but was very good. The split pea and ham soup was great as well. Forget the slaw and the salad... More

Tara's is a landmark in Port Jefferson. The menu is on paper plates on the wall, you can get anything from a hot dog to a "the best lobster in town" $10. The day we were there the special was corned beef dinner or roast beef sandwich served with salad & soup for a dollar. Food is great but if... More

The food is not homemade, but frozen. The best value is the dollar burger but no better than dollar menu fast food. The place has a rowdy atmosphere, not welcoming if not a "regular". The cafeteria tables are not welcoming, the place needs cleaning, the management needs customer relation classes. no real irish hospitality st all

Things they are a changing ... Tara's has been a community staple for over 30 years. Not fancy, but you could always expect the best meal or bang for your buck!. We LOVED the Chili!!! We hurried to Port Jefferson around 12:45 because already, and based on lunch time history, we may not only not find seating in the dining... More

My husband and I used to have dinner at Tara's often when we were dating. It is a bar and can be quite noisy. The food is excellent but it is very casual. We've brought our teenage children here and they've enjoyed it.

Incredible, prices, food, atmosphere out of this world. Food specials are a great deal but so is the regular menu. Lobster plate at $10.00! Local place and you can tell it is a favorite(a NY friend clued us in) Met Kate and Tara acted as if we were family-THANKS

Tara's is very casual - almost biker style, but the food is good, not overpriced, and what's even better is choosing your number at the bar during happy hour and having your drinks cost 10 cents each drink (IF you're lucky to pick the right number from 1-5 )!! Their lobster dinner can not be beat at $10 bucks! The... More
