An Old Bar

Came in here for lunch with a coworker. From the smell of old bar to the old cigarette marchine in the corner this place basically looks like a dump both in and out. If you can get past that and read the menu on the walls the food is better. I ordered the $2 hamburger. It was cooked perfect... read more

I've been going to Tara's for about 30 years as a go-to for an inexpensive meal and a decent beer. It has never let me down. It is a local bar, but strangers are welcome. I think it's part of the Long Island experience.

I have been going to Tara's for years; it was always a nice Irish family type bar and still is. Very recently the pull tabs at 'happy hour' were dumped-- the prices--heretofore very reasonable have increased greatly (4 x) while the portions have shrunk. Now it's just a bar; what happened?? Yesterday I was there with my and wife and... More

Pros- inexpensive, good beer list. Cons- place is very worn, salads very small, menu changes, when they run out of an item they run out, cash only

The salads have shrunk in size. You have to order everything at the bar because the servers are not trusted with taking orders and everything is all cash. This is has been the 3rd time we have been here and they have no lobsters. This is the only reason we come and I will probably not come back

I love Tara's and always come here when in town. Decent food and a great atmosphere. Six of us went to dinner last night. When three of our dinners arrived twenty minutes after the others, we asked for a manager. Kate was nothing but rude and confrontational. Get some skills sister!

Established in the late 70s has maintained many of the food prices from that era including their famous $1 hamburgers. Varied menu at reasonable prices will satisfy almost anyone's taste for typical bar food. Popular from bikers to brokers and everyone in between. Multiple screen TV always tuned to sports channels. Friendly staff who do get to know the name... More

What else can I say, great drink and food specials. I am never disappointed in this place. Paper plates are filled with great food.

A whole lobster for $9.99 A large steak for $11.99 and $5.00 for 10 peel and eat shrimp. The value is great with a good selection of food. My biggest complaint about this place is that it is very very loud. If you want to be able to hear yourself talk ...go in the middle of the day instead of... More

Go casual, jeans casual. It could get a bit messy. It is confusing the first time, ask for "how to" at the bar. It is noisy, crowded, busy. Not good for conversation unless you are shouting. The lobster wasn't huge but was very good. The split pea and ham soup was great as well. Forget the slaw and the salad... More
