This was a truly bizarre visit to this local Penfield restaurant that turned out to be a bit scary. The person working the grill when I walked in was preparing the lunch order for a group of three people, who seated around another table. I stood at the counter for a good five minutes just waiting for the employee to... More

A Red Hot with hot sauce, mac salad ... nothing is more quintessentially Rochester! Excellent food, large portions. Looks like it's in an old house. Could probably use a good cleaning and paint job. But still -- great food!

For anyone who hasn't eaten at one of these places, please bear with me. No, the food isn't gourmet. Neither is it healthy, attractive, or particularly nutritious. But it is Rochester garbage plates at their finest; good "grunge" food at its finest, and it sure tastes good! My dinner tonight consisted of two "white hot" hot dogs, split in half... More

I went there for lunch at noon, there was only one table in front of me that had just completed their order but there was like 6 of them. I ordered immediately after them and ordered a cheese burger and onion rings. I waited and waited and knew there was only one person back there and it was not going... More

Stopped by for a quick family dinner. This will be my only time there. Pros: menu has good selection and the chicken fingers were tasty. Cons: price (they charged an extra $1 for lettuce and tomato on a chicken sandwich), not having everything on the menu (out of fish even though it does not say Friday only) and 1 other... More

They have a good version of a garbage plate. It has been a while but they have a great fish fry. HUGE hunk of well done fish. Enough for two at a reasonable price. If you think you are going out for a foo foo atmosphere this place isn't for you. But if you want some good food that isn't... More

Most tasteless cheeseburger I ever had !! Even though a $1, I would go to Burger King instead. They don't accept credit cards but have a ATM machine that charges you $2 for every transaction .What a rip. What business in ths day and age doesn't accept credit cards?? I would never suggest this place to anyone.

I often indulge in a good hotdog. Penfield Hots offers a good selection of food. Restaurant is small inside but has a good deck area to eat on. It is a good choice for fast food.

I've driven past this place every day for the last 22 years without ever venturing in. (I'd never eaten at Nick Tahoes, either, so I had no pre-conceived notions.) Penfield Hots sells "rubbish plates," since they aren't allowed to call them "garbage plates,' (a name that Nick Tahoes has patented). Basically, it is a heap of food on a plate,... More

Oh My God! The place looked closed - that should have been my first clue. Everything on their huge menu was not available. Soda machine = not working. TV on loud = could not talk. Counter help = needed help! Unfamiliar with "garbage plates" - they are...garbage. (at least at Penfield hots.) Baked beans = cold and slimy, macaroni salad... More
