Our dinner started with cocktails (gin and tonics), on the deck, perfect starters for a warm and pleasant evening. I ordered the Grilled Eggplant salad special and it was off-the-charts delicious! The presentation was first-rate, with luscious polenta "croutons" artfully arranged on fresh, mesclun lettuce. Next, we ordered the farfalle with mint, peas, lemon zest and ricotta salata. The pasta... More

Updating my review of 2010..... We visit Fernwood several times each year and recently had an outstanding meal in the company of a good friend. The menu has been stable over the years and I was somewhat surprised to find that it revised and updated. My wife and I were very happy with our selections. I had chicken encrusted with... More

We were here mid week and strolled into the place to find it was "turkey Tuesday". For $12.50 we were served home made breads and a thanksgiving turkey dinner. The service and food was spot on.

We needed dinner late Friday evening and followed a sign to Fernwood near our small B&B in Palenville, NY. Way back in the woods we found this large old farmhouse and since it was late in September, they had room for us without a reservation. The spacious dining room with its antique furniture and lighting surrounded us in elegance from... More

We are a UK couple and we have just finished a three week US trip. During this time, we landed in Palenville and were out for a walk in the woods when we chanced upon this interesting-looking place. We asked if they'd be open that evening and booked ourselves in. The meal turned out to be way beyond expectation -... More

When our first choice of restaurant turned out to be closed, we searched for another restaurant with good to great reviews that was close by, and the Fernwood popped up. Tucked away off the beaten path, it turned out to be a delightful find. Although it is on a dead end road it is well signed and easy to find.They... More

My husband and I visited the Fernwood after hiking to Poet's Ledge. The owner was very nice and let us park while we hiked with the agreement that we would eat when we returned. The ambience is very peaceful. We ate on the porch with the sound of the creek in the background, very relaxing and private. The clam chowder... More

Run-down older house. Although they seem to be trying, do not even think about asking for a glass of water! It's loaded with sulfur and undrinkable.Surprised they don't get a water system

From the wonderful food to the friendly family service, you will have a great experience. The homemade suffed clams are the best (and our favorite). The generouse size portions will satsify everyone, we always leave with leftovers and plenty of money still in our pocket. We cannot say enough good things about the Fernwood...if you haven't tried it, your missing... More

Elegant and comfortable, cozy and friendly. Such a delightful backdrop to enjoy a scrumptious meal. We have eaten here a number of time over the years and have never been disappointed. Favorites are the Scungilli Diavlo and Stuffed mushrooms for starters. We celebrate with their Queen Cut, and our appetites are deliciously satiated with the lamb or chicken choices. The... More
