I used to LOVE this restaurant. We had moved out of the area and I couldn't wait to get sushi there when we came up for a visit. What a disappointment! Service was the worst ever. My son did not receive his food until we were all done with ours. Our drinks were never refilled unless we requested it. The... More

I love this little place--great fresh sushi and excellent value. I particularly recommend the delicious clear mushroom soup, and try the oshingo (Japanese pickles) appetizer--a huge assortment of really interesting and delicious pickles! My boyfriend got a lovely little crab salad appetizer in half an avocado--scrumptious. Very charming atmosphere, polite servers, great experience overall. There's no other place in New... More

This cute little Japanese restaurant had outdoor seating which was pleasant on this early evening in June. The sesame noodles had a good taste but were a little gummy. The squid salad was fresh and flavorful. The sushi rolls were average. The service was pleasant and attentive.

We had to sit outside on a not very warm day because the place was full of happy eaters (as other reviewers have noted). So if you want to sit inside to enjoy the very good food, be sure to leave plenty of time because others may have the same idea at the same time.

Hokkaido always has the freshest and most delicious sushi in the area. Its smart to make a reservation as they fill up often. The food: The lunch bento box is the best deal in town. For dinner the spicy cold sesame noodles, shogun roll, and the yosen nabe hot pot are our personal favorites. The service: Usually very good. They... More

Whenever I eat japanese, I always like to try the Chirashi. The Chirashi Don here at Hokkaido is very fresh and delicious. I sat outside and the area was very unkept....definately no Zen here! I bet dining inside would've been Zen-like, but when I arrived there was no room for a single diner.

I've gone to dinner at, and ordered takeout from, Hokkaido many times--it's good stuff. Good miso soup, and I love their dinner options that offer a whole package of miso soup and three kinds of rolls (I usually get the avocado roll, the sweet potato roll, and the asparagus roll). True, you'll wait a bit (takeout is usually a 30-minute... More

Hokkaido is a quaint little restaurant tucked in corner off the main drag of New Paltz, a college town filled with great energy from nearby Woodstock and the world class outdoor playground of the Shawgunk Mountains. Having lived in Japan for 8 years, I have missed terribly my Japanese diet of sushi, tempura vegetables, gyoza, and of course soba noodle... More
