Description: The Backyard Restaurant is inspired by a healthy approach to diet and lifestyle – but not obsessive in its goal. We are all about good, wholesome, fresh, natural ingredients and sources (organic meats and vegetables from the local farmer’s markets, fresh catch from the local fishermen). But we can make a pretty nifty drink too. This season, new resident Executive Chef, Larry Kolar, will be applying a unique, modern interpretation to market-driven, market fresh cusine.

While I cannot attest to the hotel accommodations, after a few visits to the restaurant and attending the Maxi Priest concert, I can honestly say that Sole East is a special destination. The new chef (adam) is taking local Montauk fare to the next level. Their award winning New England Claw Chowder is one of the best in town. Fluke... More

We had a reservation for 5 at 9 pm and were promptly seated. We already had drinks and apps prior to arriving for the dinner and just wanted to eat. We ordered our food and waited and watched as the tables filled up around us. Those who sat down around us and after us were all served with in 15-... More

We had apps and a bottle of wine when we stayed at the Sole East Resort and we enjoyed the service, food and wine. It can be a bit pretentious, but not to the point where you feel uncomfortable. Also they should move the beds out from under the trees and invest in more umbrellas. They are providing warm bodies... More

Sole east is located at the old shepherds neck in Montauk. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. The meal, however, left us cold. We live in Montauk....a half a broiled lobster for $36? And a 1 1/4 one at that! And the took the lobster out and chopped it up. My hubby ordered the swordfish...$38 with soggy fries as a... More

My wife and I ate at Sole' East in August 2013. We Both got sick as a dog. I had the chicken, she had the steak. Beware. Since usually chicken can contain bacteria, it was unusual that my wife also got sick. That leads me to believe the sanitary conditions in the kitchen are suspect.

We regret to hear that the reviewer and his wife were ill. On a typical day in August, we serve over 300 guests. We have never received a food complaint of this nature from any other customer. The Backyard Restaurant at Sole East takes proper food preparation/handling and sanitation very seriously. Our staff is well trained, and held to very... More

The location is very pretty, set in thebackyard of the sole east hotel. We sat outside on a beautiful summer evening. The waiter greeted us and was helpful in discussing dishes on the menu.  Drinks, appetizers and entrees were ordered. We ordered the tuna tartare and clam chowder for appetizers. Both were excellent.  Then, we waited for our entrees..... And... More

We were so pleasantly surprised by the dinner eaten here. The menu is as simple as the interior design which is whitewash walls, stone floors, driftwood accents ( this is a beachtown hotel after all) candles in the wall niches and obviously in chillier weather a fire in the fireplace. The menu offered five or six interesting appetizers ( I... More
