Delicious Food. Pompous Environment.

Excellent quality food. $$$$ a little expensive. There is an arrogance in the atmosphere that bothered my guest and I while we were there. Although food was good not sure I would go back. Difficult to explain.

This wonderful family restaurant has been serving delicious food for 90 years and it just keeps getting better. The menu features many old favorites and a fair number of less common yet equally delicious dishes. Prices are reasonable, the wine list spectacular and the ambiance is comfortable. A great place to spend a couple of hours or more enjoying good... More

Its been a while since we have been to dinner in a black-tie establishment. The service fit the surroundings. A wood paneled room with gracious service, with a multiple peoplle taking care of us. The restaurant was full but it seemed that the staff works together taking care of all the diners. This was a nice change and food matched... More

What an old fashioned dining experience, Mature waiters in jackets and bow ties toiling away at gueridon tables, flambéing dishes, tossing salads and generally being very flamboyant. The food was good, Appetizer duck leg cassoulet was excellent, Veal chop entree was a bit fatty and could have been hotter - but very tasty. Creme Brûlée was a bit dense in... More

We were in Ulster County for Valentine's Day Weekend. The owner of the Bed & Breakfast we were staying in recommended this place to us. He said it was approximately 40 minutes away but worth the trip. I vaguely remembered this place from my youth. I believe my father had once taken my brothers and I here. Well, it was... More

Second time there was on Valentines Day. This review is for both experiences. Everything was absolutely perfect, from the service, to the food. The food is brought out promptly and everything is always perfectly cooked. Try the sea bass! you cant go wrong with that. I would move into this place if they would let me.

We arrived for a 7 PM reservation to see the restaurant full. The wait was short, and we were seated. Never having been here before, I noticed the wait staff, all in tuxedos, all very mature professional waiters. I was surprised to find out the there were men who have been working here for over 55 years! They were truly... More

After a day of touring the mansions on the east side of the River we were ready for a quiet dinner spot with a little history and some decent wine. The Ship lantern Inn popped up on TA and proved to be just the ticket. The wine was smooth and the crab bisque was top drawer. The raspberry. duck was... More
