A stop for every summer

Good food and good service in a casual atmosphere with a wonderful view of Chautauqua Lake. A perfect place to meet with family and friends during the summer months on Chautauqua Lake.

After trying just about every eating establishment on or near the Chautauqua Institute grounds over the years, we keep returning to Watermark, as it is clearly the best of the bunch. The large menu doesn't vary much from year to year, so we have learned what to order. Beware of any dish that is "sauced" as the sauces are all... More

If you attend Chautauqua during the 9-week summer season, you know there's a significant lack of choice on the grounds when it comes to cuisine. The Watermark in nearby Mayville offers the solution to this problem. The decor is upscale. There are all sorts of good-looking dishes on the menu including salads, steaks, poultry, seafood, pasta, and veggie. Everyone in... More

We arrived shortly after the place opened at 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon so we beat the crowd that I suspect was to follow. We were offered choice of outside or in, we chose in, and to our delight we were seated in front of window overlooking the lake. Never understood why when such tables are available we're not seated... More

We have enjoyed meals at the Watermark multiple times over the last 3-4 years. Each dinner has been very delicious and vey enjoyable. This restaurant has outdoor seating with views of the lake, if that suits your fancy!

The 4 of us were at Chautauqua Institute for the week and we wanted a good dinner and to be able to sit outside to view the lake. Watermark fit the bill. We all ordered fish when were reassured that it was fresh. It was nicely prepared and tasty. It came with a house salad that was more than just... More

There’s not a lot of great food in Chautauqua, but the Watermark is a clear exception! Although the service is informal, the food was absolutely terrific – especially the crab “bomb”, way better than a crabcake! We had such a lovely evening, enjoying the Watermark’s fabulous seafood on the outdoor deck, overlooking the lake. They pour a generous glass of... More

After many mediocre meals at Chautauqua, we decided to venture out for some real food. And this was a winner. We started with Berry Old Fashioned, just like a brandy old fashioned sweet you get in Wisconsin but with raspberries which made it so wonderful and fruity. Then on to artichoke dip with crackers. So welcome. Entry selection was nice... More

I have given rave reviews for the Watermark however our last visit was less pleasant due to owner( I believe -a short stocky man with glasses). We were seated as requested on the patio but at a sunny table which was a problem for me. I asked our waiter to switch and if he could move with us he said... More

The Watermark Restaurant is a short drive from Erie or Buffalo, approximately 50 minutes. It is open for dinner and offers a wide variety of menu choices. My personal favorite is the Pompadour Pasta which is accompanied by bread and a salad. Add their signature Green Goddess Dressing, order a glass of Pinot Grigio and you have a tasty meal... More
