Have been a regular here for the last three years. Visited Singapore earlier this year, ate at 'din tai fung'..(google it if you must).....the soup dumplings at Ala Shanghai are almost as good....and that is saying a lot. Without comparison in the 518. This is the best Chinese food around. Fresh, great quality, normal portions, none of the typical frozen fried crap. Soup dumplings are as good as NYC Chinatown. Pea pod shoots, shrimp and asparagus, chicken and eggplant, and shredded beef with chili, all were delicious.

4 of us for lunch. Seated promptly. Efficient staff. 4 appetizers- spicy wontons(mildly spicy not much flavor) shumai ( just ok) fava bean chips (very good) soup buns (the best of the 4). 4 entrees-eggplant (again no flavor, too oily and not spicy even though I asked it to be), tofu(very soft-it shook like jello and not much flavor) double... We tried the Dim Sum several weeks ago and loved it. What an inventive menu! The various dumplings and soups are foods one just doesn't find anywhere. We went back for lunch and were bowled over. Everything here is top-notch, and judging by the fact that the crowd is overwhelmingly Asian, I would assume it is all authentic. It's a... More

My husband and I had dinner there on a Friday evening. It's good, but seems to be alacart because they do not allow substitutions at all. You order the fish, all you get is the fish and rice, you order the duck, you get it with rice, that's it, no vegetables unless you pay $12 for them! They would not... More

My husband and I went there on a Friday night and the place was jammed and I thought we would have to wait for more than a half hour. They seated us with in minutes of our arrival. They have such a good system that no one waits long for anything and everyone is so helpful. I've tried the spicy... More

I first went to this restaurant with my then-fiance the day after Thanksgiving 2014, and I was so thrilled to finally find real Chinese food in upstate New York, albeit 3 hours south of me. We ordered the steamed pork soup dumplings, spicy shredded beef, and beef rice noodles. It was some of the best Chinese food I've ever had,... More

very nice atmosphere, food and service. The only thing I would suggest is that hot food be placed on plates that are hot to prevent food from cooling too fast, especially on a cold winter day. That is the one and only fault of our visit.

Ala Shanghai is as good as it gets. We have been coming here for several years. This is not your typical Pu-Pu platter menu, but exquisite and authentic Chinese food. Our favorite thing here is to try new and unfamiliar dishes along with our favorites. So, for example, the other night we tried a vegetarian "sausage" dish (tofu) and an... More

This is a Chinese restaurant unlike any other in the area. We reserved a round table for 8 with a lazy Susan to help us share the amazing dishes we would order. We decided on 4 main dishes and 4 pre- dinner dishes of dim sum and appetizers. Starters were Scallion pancakes, Pork dumplings, 2 orders of Steamed vegetable dumplings.... More
