My wife and I are long time Latham residents but had never eaten at Ala Shanghai despite the fact that our son the foodie has often recommended it. Stopped by without reservations around 6 PM on a Saturday night and had no trouble finding a table. They specialize in the food of the Shanghai region but also have Sichuan and... More

Outstanding food and service. The entrees were large and delicious. The large family style portions made for sharing.

On my second visit to this restaurant .... having lived in Asia, and visited mainland China twice, I must say that's as close as you can get to real Chinese food. We were in a big group, therefore I had a chance to sample lots of different dishes, all of them very good. I would definitely visit it again on... More

This restaurant has a great assortment of Sichuan cuisine. The dumpling selection is fantastic. Don't miss out on the delicious soup dumpling (regular steamed dumplings with soup inside) and the spicy wanton dumpling. The only drawback that makes this place fall short of a fine dining experience is that the waiters, being very quick and efficient at what they do,... More

A group of 4 friends ate at Shanghai this evening. We ordered shrimp with asparagus, chicken with cashews, chicken pad thai, and chicken with snowpeas and mushrooms. All were very well prepared. The cost was 20 dollars per person including tax and tip. Very reasonable for a high quality meal!

I have been reading all the great reviews of Ala Shanghai, and finally went today for lunch. Wow! Was I disappointed. We each had the soup dumplings and shared Spring Rolls and Scallion Pancake. The Spring Rolls' filling was mushy and had absolutely no taste. The Scallion Pancake was light but, again, no flavor. The soup dumplings' dough was too... More

I came all the way from Detroit for authentic Chinese food, by rumored 5 chefs from Shanghai. I was not disappointed. The Shanghai soup dumplings were great. Appetizers of aster, beef slices and cucumber salad started out meal. Shanghai won ton soup was followed by shui mai and har gow dim sum. The highlight was a steamed flounder. It was... More

I just keep going back to Ala Shanghai with different friends. We have different foods and it's always good and reasonably priced with a pot of free hot tea. Staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. A very comfortable place.

We went with a party of six last night for Chinese New Year and ordered their special, "Family Dinner for Six", $98. The place was completely packed (reservations were a must) and the service was slow to start. But we weren't in a hurry and once the server got to our table everything was a go. We started with luscious... More
