Awesome soup dumplings - we also loved the fillet in spicy fish sauce. Super authentic - we loved it! We stopped here on the way from Montreal to New York - would definitely come again!

ordered dumplings, sesame chicken and chicken with broccoli. All were tasteless and the chicken was very fatty. I was very disappointed because of all the good reviews. I have had Chinese food many times and this was one of the worst places.

We love this place: soup dumplings, soup dumplings, soup dumplings(!) even though everything we've tried is wonderful. Service is attentive and kind but not overbearing. We love hot and spicy and we can get it here.

First of all, the service was very good, with knowledgeable staff ready to answer any questions about the food. The food was quite a tribute to Shanghai preparation. We tried both soup dumplings and also vegetable dumplings. They were all good. Then we tried food items we have had before and some new ones. Some very authentic flavors of Shanghai,... More

We went to Ala Shanghai once before and found it ok, but this time, it was great. We had Chinese guests in town and they really enjoyed it, too. Our party of 6 sat at a round table with a turntable in the middle which made it easy to share dishes. They have both English and Chinese menus. The wait... More

My wife and I are long time Latham residents but had never eaten at Ala Shanghai despite the fact that our son the foodie has often recommended it. Stopped by without reservations around 6 PM on a Saturday night and had no trouble finding a table. They specialize in the food of the Shanghai region but also have Sichuan and... More

Outstanding food and service. The entrees were large and delicious. The large family style portions made for sharing.

On my second visit to this restaurant .... having lived in Asia, and visited mainland China twice, I must say that's as close as you can get to real Chinese food. We were in a big group, therefore I had a chance to sample lots of different dishes, all of them very good. I would definitely visit it again on... More

This restaurant has a great assortment of Sichuan cuisine. The dumpling selection is fantastic. Don't miss out on the delicious soup dumpling (regular steamed dumplings with soup inside) and the spicy wanton dumpling. The only drawback that makes this place fall short of a fine dining experience is that the waiters, being very quick and efficient at what they do,... More

A group of 4 friends ate at Shanghai this evening. We ordered shrimp with asparagus, chicken with cashews, chicken pad thai, and chicken with snowpeas and mushrooms. All were very well prepared. The cost was 20 dollars per person including tax and tip. Very reasonable for a high quality meal!
