Love this place for its food and its views of the lake. We eat here whenever we visit Lake Placid. We enjoy the eclectic atmosphere and dog-themed artwork. At a recent dinner, the bread was fresh and warm, served with tasty herb butter. The diver scallops were excellent and the duck was tasty although cooked ever so slightly more than... More

We were promptly seated and quick response from our server, Erin. She was vey professional and knowledgeable. The ambiance was cozy and warm. We had a very good crab cake that was moist and flavorful. For our entrees, we had Duck and Filet Mignon. The food temperatures were spot on with warm centers. The wine was a bottle of Malbec... Had a great couple of glasses of wine on the sitting area by the bar. Good selection of wine at reasonable prices. The server was very attentive but not on top of you. It was a Saturday evening during the off season so the bar was not busy though there were people there. Food that I saw looked great though... More

Beautiful restaurant in great location but the food was disappointing. We're four and all tried different entrees. Some plates were great: the bass, the French onion soup and the bread but some were only ok: the salmon, the swordfish. Also all the entrees came with rice and three carrots. I was expensive a lot better considering how expensive our dinner... More

A big brown dog greets you as you enter this cozy wine bar/restaurant. He's very well-behaved, albeit a bit wooden. This is a lovely place to sit, sipping on your favorite beverage and watching the snow swirl outside the windows. In the front you watch ambulatory or vehicular traffic pass by and in the rear you watch snow and ice... More

We ate at this restaurant back in late September. Fun hosts and wait staff. Got a table by the window with the lake view that was very nice. But noticed cobwebs (and spiders) on the inside of the windows. There were also a number of lights that were out and the A/C vents were really dusty. The food was OK.... More

Dishes here tend to be on the fancy side. Prices are higher but food is of good quality. Great wine selection but not cheap. Try happy hour for good deals. Plus the owners a very very nice people

I had looked up restaurant possibilities before embarking on our 4 day, long weekend, trip to Lake Placid this past weekend. The Brown Dog stood out for its creative menu and, what looked like an upscale, unpretentious, yet comfortable atmosphere. As our hotel was just up Main Street within walking distance, we popped into the Brown Dog during an afternoon... More

We just walked in and was able to get a window sit in front of lake. The service was excellent and the chef sent a little appetizer to our table to try. It was great. The food was good and just enough amount.

We were actually here in August of 2013....and walked the streets of Lake Placid looking for a place to eat for an early dinner. Many restaurants were closed in the afternoon-getting ready to open later for dinner. Came across this restaurant, couldn't get a seat overlooking Mirror Lake (that area of the restaurant was closed) but ate in the bar.... More
