Following some excellent and good reviews online, we went for a lunch in this place at a sunny Saturday noon. This was a huge mistake. The place has an excellent view for the lake, and we got a great table by the windows. And that was it. The place was fairly empty for a busy Saturday, and we noticed that... More

Many great reviews encouraged me to seek out this establishment. I ordered a lobster club and was dismayed at the largesse. The bacon was not cooked fully, avocado while ripe was mashed and piled on with no apparent seasoning. The lobster was negligible. The "brioche" was just a common bun. The lemon pepper aioli was unique, hence not a disastrous... More

On a recent visit to Lake Placid, a friend and I decided to stop into the Brown Dog for a late lunch. We waited a short time for a table on the window, which really is the draw of the dining room. This place has a beautiful view of Mirror Lake, and since the weather was a bit unpredictable the... More

Here we go again. I had an identical experience at this restaurant during my first visit some years earlier. The food is quite good but the staff clearly take themselves far too seriously. When we walked in there were no less than 5 tables open; yet, the greeter asked if we had a reservation. The waiter, comically, lectured us on... More

Hi There, I am so sorry for what you experienced at the brown dog. if possible i would like to clear up some of your misconceptions. the person you called the obnoxious owner was actually the electrician. If you had asked him who he was instead of erroneously assuming he worked for the restaurant as part of the service staff... More

We just returned from a two day visit to Lake Placid and dinner at the Brown Dog Cafe was the highlight of the trip! For starters we were given delicious warm crusty homemade bread with herb butter accompanied by an amuse bouche, complements of the chef. Our server, Erin, expertly assisted us in navigating the extensive menu. What followed were... More

I came in on a whim while walking down Main Street. The restaurant was not overly busy and initially, I decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was friendly and recommended couple of dishes when I asked what their signature dish is. I chose the rack of lamb. The lamb was very good. I liked the accompanying sauces. The... More

We had a late lunch at the brown dog cafe and were nicely surprised. Wonderful view on Mirror lake, good choice of small meals and very friendly staff. We had various sandwiches (lobster, chicken) and cheese in pastry - it was all fresh, delicious and well presented. To be recommended without hesitation.

My wife and I love the high peaks region of the Adirondack's and have traveled there many times. On this day, raining almost continuously from start to finish, we ventured into Lake Placid to shop. We had not tried the Brown Dog on our past trips and decided to venture in. The decor is a high point, dark woods and... More

The Brown Dog Cafe and Wine Bar has so much to offer! From their lite fair menu, to entrees and salads, down to a wonderful list of wines, not to mention reserves. I dined here with some friends from out of town. Were they impressed! Started with smoked duck quesadilla, escargot and mussels for 4. Duck Q bursting with flavor... More

We were seated promptly at 7pm at a beautiful table overlooking Mirror Lake but then took a while before our waiter appeared. In about10 minutes our room temperature (no ice) water was served and drinks arrived another 10 minutes after that. A tiny (~2 x 5 inch) loaf of bread was then served to a table of 4. Although I...
