In a sea of fast food type restaurants, we found The Brown Dog! Thank Heavens! When you walk in you are immediately transformed to Rue Jacob!I felt as if I was in a flea market in France, turns out I was. One of the owners is an artist and I left with a art deco french mirror. We had dinner at... More

We went hoping for a nice meal while on vacation and we got anything but. His meal was okay at best the potatoes were cold and the steak was over cooked. My meal was terrible. No saving grace here. The pork was over cooked the au jus that was served with it tasted horrible. The scalloped potatoes were several days... More

I stop by the brown dog café for a drink with my wife. They had a sign outside advertising five dollar premium wines. When the bartender finally got to me in the bar he seemed like he was annoyed and offered up was not busy,, I asked him about the five dollar wine special. He seemed annoyed that I asked... More

A friend loves Brown Dog so we went tonight for dinner. It is a nice looking cozy restaurant. My shrimp spring roll app was under fried about 20-30 seconds so the inside skin was doughy. The escargot was good though. My 21d aged ribeye was not that tender or tasty, but the deconstructed beef Wellington was great. Honey lavender creme... More

Cozy atmosphere and amazing food. The herb compound butter they serve with their bread basket is drool-worthy. We ate here on our honeymoon trip to Lake Placid, and were hesitant in choosing it based on the other reviews. Our waitress was fine, but the food took an inordinate amount of time to be served, especially considering that we were one... More

Love this place for its food and its views of the lake. We eat here whenever we visit Lake Placid. We enjoy the eclectic atmosphere and dog-themed artwork. At a recent dinner, the bread was fresh and warm, served with tasty herb butter. The diver scallops were excellent and the duck was tasty although cooked ever so slightly more than... More

We were promptly seated and quick response from our server, Erin. She was vey professional and knowledgeable. The ambiance was cozy and warm. We had a very good crab cake that was moist and flavorful. For our entrees, we had Duck and Filet Mignon. The food temperatures were spot on with warm centers. The wine was a bottle of Malbec... Had a great couple of glasses of wine on the sitting area by the bar. Good selection of wine at reasonable prices. The server was very attentive but not on top of you. It was a Saturday evening during the off season so the bar was not busy though there were people there. Food that I saw looked great though... More

Beautiful restaurant in great location but the food was disappointing. We're four and all tried different entrees. Some plates were great: the bass, the French onion soup and the bread but some were only ok: the salmon, the swordfish. Also all the entrees came with rice and three carrots. I was expensive a lot better considering how expensive our dinner... More

A big brown dog greets you as you enter this cozy wine bar/restaurant. He's very well-behaved, albeit a bit wooden. This is a lovely place to sit, sipping on your favorite beverage and watching the snow swirl outside the windows. In the front you watch ambulatory or vehicular traffic pass by and in the rear you watch snow and ice... More
