My boyfriend and I were visiting Lake Placid and my brother and his girlfriend are locals there. We had been checking out The Brown Dog Cafe each time we walked by and also read the mixed reviews online. As a bartender/server I know that oftentimes these reviews can be quite skewed so we bit the bullet and went in for... More

It took awhile to get seated and served. It appeared that management expected a slow night and therefore, they were somewhat understaffed. But it was worth the wait. The food was very tasty and portions were very generous. There was sizable but pricey wine list. Our waitress was very pleasant.

Looking at this place from the front, we had reservations. We were wrong. This place is excellent, but not perfect. Great Lake views, quiet and spacious seating, and great service. And the food is excellent, with a wide variety of French-inspired steaks, seafood, duck, and other issues. My wife loved her house salad, especially the wonderful, house-made dressing. My onion... We had looked at several places to eat in Lake Placid and came upon this one by chance whilst on holiday in the area - the name and frontage of the place initially put us off because it implies and looked a cheap cafe but we looked through the window and saw a large restaurant at the rear and a... The setting of this restaurant is superb, with views over mirror lake that are breathtaking. It also has a great wine list, full of very special wines from across the USA, and some from further afield. Service was knowledgable and friendly. The food was fine, but a bit uninspiring. Well cooked but without a particular wow factor.

Excellent service, friendly decor. I wish there would have been local beers. The service was quick and presentation of the food excellent.

Not a huge selection for lunch but enjoyed the Turkey Grill. We were seated at a rather small table in the corner of the room. Unfortunately our view of Mirror Lake was really just a view of a large tree with a dead limb, so a little disappointing. Server was friendly but only really saw him briefly. Had a great... More

You will come back again and again to this great restaurant. All six of us enjoyed our meals and the wine was outstanding.

A great menu. Very imaginative. Prices pretty good. Very nice wine list. This place exceeded our expectations for main street in Lake Placid. A respite from the touristy places indeed.

Anniversary dinner at the end of August. The service was excellent and the food some of the best I've ever had. Although priced on the higher side it is worth the fine dining experience. Also, lovely view of the lake.
