The Brown Dog Cafe and Wine Bar has so much to offer! From their lite fair menu, to entrees and salads, down to a wonderful list of wines, not to mention reserves. I dined here with some friends from out of town. Were they impressed! Started with smoked duck quesadilla, escargot and mussels for 4. Duck Q bursting with flavor... More

We were seated promptly at 7pm at a beautiful table overlooking Mirror Lake but then took a while before our waiter appeared. In about10 minutes our room temperature (no ice) water was served and drinks arrived another 10 minutes after that. A tiny (~2 x 5 inch) loaf of bread was then served to a table of 4. Although I... During our visit we were seated in a booth for an early dinner (5:30). The lights needed to be turned up, they were way too dim to read the menu. I am only mentioning this due to other reviews I just read for the first time. The dining area by the windows probably had enough light, the booth areas did... More

This restaurant offered a great view of Mirror Lake from its dining room. Once I removed the caramelized onions from inside my Smoked Duck Quesadilla appetizer, I found it quite to my liking...pleasant and tasty, but it was enough for two people. The soup - I think it was potato cheddar...was okay. Had the sugar-seared Scottish Salmon entrée, but it... More

We often stop here when visiting Placid. Truthfully, I liked the old smaller location better but this new spot does come with a nice view of Mirror Lake. We normally get a sandwich with a local brew. Love the Malla sandwich and the make your own menu works well. Homemade potato salad works well with the sandwiches.

Had a great evening at The Brown Dog, sampling wines and chatting with the owner until last call. Mr. Tenant also set us up with a boat rental for the next day. Thanks again!

Haven't been there is awhile (we go to Lake Placid several times a year and eat out nearly every night) so we tried this again. Very good.....well worth a visit! We most certainly will go again!

We found this café while shopping in Lake Placid. The dining room is tucked behind the bar and it has a view of Mirror Lake. The menu is creative & local. The service was good. We thought it was the best option in the downtown shopping area.

Based on other reviews, I was looking forward to trying this place, but I should have known as soon as we were seated to lower my expectations. The hostess/bus person, walked very fast to our table, as we followed behind, dropped the menus at 'our' table and as we were still a good 10 feet from the table she said... More

A friend and I recently ate at this restaurant on a trip to Lake Placid. The "wine bar" part attracted us, as there didn't seem to be a lot of nice spots for a glass of wine in town, and they have a very large selection. The place seemed to feature a lot of smoked type meats, so we hadn't... More
