John Thomas Steakhouse is everything an amazing steakhouse should be. Dining here always reminds me of Peter Luger's Steakhouse...even the tomato-based steak sauce calls to mind that Brooklyn landmark. Grade A, Prime, Dry-Aged steaks are savory and delicious. Their house-made steak sauce is divine. My only complaint is the sides are HUGE --- even the half-portions are enough for a... More

Everyone in our party ordered different items but each was prepared to perfection. Love the family style sides, get the mashed potatoes they are to die for. The service is warm and professional. Each staff member well trained in the menu. You can't go wrong here.

This is said to be "the place" students ask their parents to take them for special occasions. John Thomas did not disappoint. The appetizers were all great: smoked trout and calamari. I had the bone-in steak and my wife the filet mignon. The steaks were excellently prepared and delicious. Quite pricey, but worth the price. Great meal indeed.

We were very excited after reading all the stellar reviews, but were quite let down by the actual experience. We were expecting to be floored by the steaks, they were ok. My husband and I got the small 24 ounce porterhouse for two, medium rare. The steak arrives already sliced and UNDERCOOKED, not much they can do to fix the... More

Excellent service, very attentive staff and we didn't have to ask for anything. Ordered small size salads for appetizers and a regular tomato and mozzarella. The mozzarella was particularly fresh and flavorful. We had the vegetarian entree, the salmon, the filet and the strip. The pasta was enough for two people. We also had mashed potatoes, 1/2 fries, 1/2 onions... More

Went to this restaurant as with other contributors because of proximity to hotel after a long drive . We did not really want a huge meal and were slightly daunted by the high cost. So glad that we did not order a starter and did not eat much of the good bread and butter supplied while we waited for our... More

My wife and I recently dined here for our anniversary. We picked this restaurant for it's proximity to our hotel and it seemingly being a high end steakhouse. We started our meal with a shared tomato and smoked mozzarella salad. It was fine and used very fresh tomatoes. We then each had a steak; she a petite cut filet and... More

Traveling with another couple, we selected this restaurant because of its location to our hotel (across the parking lot) and its steakhouse menu. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Steaks arrived cooked to order. Sides were enough to share around the table. The restaurant, at this time, does allow you to bring in your own bottle of wine. Some may... More

It would take a lot to tear me away from The Palm, my official provider of animal fats since 197X. But in Ithaca with no Palm available, John Thomas is a good choice. Warm welcome, very competent servers, hearty drinks and luxury food...Ain't cheap, but it is good!

We love to dine here on certain occasions in the summer and fall. Fall especially, so I will enjoy another trip out sometime in October. Food is always excellent and waitstaff is always polite and fully attentive. We always enjoy the steak, it's the only place to get a dry aged steak in our region, and they are always cooked... More
