I never knew this restaurant existed until I checked it out on Trip Advisor. based on the ratings, I had to try it. In a city that has many good to outstanding restaurants, Mercato stands out of on of the best. It is small, seats about 45, very attentive staff, the kitchen is out in the restaurant, the food and... Family owned; Italian influenced. Food is superb: from the wonderful bread, the range of entrees (the Hanger Steak is unusually good, but you will not go wrong with the pork, the pastas, fish(in parchment no less) or even the chicken), the excellent Italian wine selections (my companions swear by the cocktails), and the inventive desserts. The service is welcoming and... More

Not too small, but very cozy place. Great food, very thoughtful collection of Italian wine, immaculate service delivered by the excellent staff. Need we say more? We loved house cured olives, their signature salads, fish in parchment. I would classify their cuisine as Italian Fusion (if there is such a thing), inventive, flavorful, very healthy.

My daughter and I ate here last night. Eric, the owner, always has a smile and a bright welcome. Our cocktails were terrific. The wine suggestions were spot on with the food. We loved the Cristini sampler. My Porkchop was cooked perfectly. We will be back again and again...

Loved the food here! We ended up eating here 2 of our 3 nights in Ithaca- only because it closes on Mondays! Their fish cooked in parchment paper is a little slice of heaven on a plate. This place is quite pricey, but the food here is worth every single cent!

We enjoyed the food as usual but the new array of specialty drinks was fun and interesting. Will definitely bring us back for more drink and munchies if we don't have dinner...liked the new menu and variety of choices.

They don't take reservations, so we went early and had no trouble getting a booth. We started with their soup of the day, an "Eastern Long Island clam chowder" - no cream, but not tomato-based either. It had some tomato and lots of vegetables and potato in a clam broth. Excellent, as was the gnocchi with eggplant ragu, a dense... More

High quality food and friendly service. The prices are a tad high BUT if you are looking for a nice place to have dinner, take guests or entertain business acquaintances, then pick this spot. Its clean, quiet and with a limited menu, they focus on executing a few dishes really well. The hangar steak is really good and so is... More
