This place is perhaps best for take-away, to make your own backyard picnic. It's well-located on Front Street in the tiny "downtown" of Greenport. Parking out front on the street is limited, so you're best to walk here. The food and supplies are gourmet - meats, cheeses, sandwiches, and, surprisingly, chilled or frozen soups for take-out. They even have some... More

Thanks for visiting our restaurant & store. We sure hope to see you next time but meanwhile we would like to say thank you for pointing out that our chicken pot pies are good cold. Our pot pies are usually served hot by servers here at our tables or taken out to be heated at home. (We offer dozens of... More

The last two times we visited Greenport, we didn't make it to Salamander's, even though it was high on my list. This time, we visited our second day in town, and liked it so much we went back the next night. The fried chicken is a MUST-HAVE. It is delectable. I read that Chef Claudia uses Browder's Birds (a local... More

Many thanks for your kind review! However, our chickens are Amish in origin, antibiotic & hormone-fee. We hope someday to be able to use local organic birds but right now they cannot supply the 600-700 birds per week we require. We are so delighted you came to dinner. Please say hello next time you're in town. More

We ate at Salamanda last weekend, they made sure my oreder didn't have or touched any shellfish (im allergenic), the Indian Dahl soup was fabulous, we took home too, I bought the Moroccan frozen lamb sausages -delicious. My friends ordered seafood - soft crab- fresh catch of the day, they loved it. You got to try the fried Chicken... and... More

This is the first time we have been to this new location and the staff was very nice. Our server John did a good job. We ordered the chicken pot pie, fried chicken and sweet potato fries. Hubby liked the pot pie, my fried chicken was pretty good although I thought the sweet potato fries couldve been cut a bit... More

Phew! We regret that your meal was spoiled by any actions on our part. I'm afraid my husband was just filling in for the bartender and didn't know the correct glass (16 oz.) to use for your seltzer. However, we must charge for seltzer & lime as there are costs associated with serving it which may not be readily apparent.... More

Salamander is one of Greenport's best food stops. It's a gourmet grocery, a restaurant and a prepared foods take-out shop. Their lemonade is the best in town (fresh made with mint leaves). Their fried chicken is the best in the region! Order it early - it sells out fast! They have a new bar and restaurant that is lovely and... More

We walked into this restaurant randomly and it ended up being one of the best meals we had all weekend! The lobster roll was AWESOME...and the Spinach Ricotta Tart delicious. We highly recommend this place and WILL be back.

We had lunch at The Salamander today. The only reason for my 4 rating is it has a very small eat in area, but otherwise it is a 5 all the way. They do have take out, so that may be an option for you. The staff is marvelous as they are friendly, attentive, and efficient. Much of the food... More

When people come to Greenport, we always get the fried chicken, purple coleslaw, and some ridiculously delicious dessert. This place is not cheap, but it's worth every penny for the quality of food you get here. She only carries a few cheeses, but they're the ones you want. The loaves of bread to go are crusty and the perfect picnic... More

We ate here based on a few recommendations, and I'll agree with some others, the fried chicken was very good. However, the night we hit it, there was one poor confused girl, acting as the bartender, waitress, maintenance (cleaning up olive oil spilled all over the floor in the bar area), answering the phone, you name it! Took us a... More

When you travel in the off-season, you sometimes don't get what you want. We wanted to eat in the Frisky Oyster - it was shut. But just over the street, Salamander's beckoned, and I'm rather glad it did. There are a lot of good things to say - a nice restaurant, friendly service - the locals were greeted warmly. It... More
