Mountain Brauhaus, if you can deal with the wait and the crowds, serves some of the best German food and drink under the sun. Located in Gardiners New York, near New Paltz, Minnewaska & Mohonk in the Shawangunk Mountain range, it is well worth the trip. Great food!

Great location with a perfect view of fall foliage even though we were late for the peak of the season. Comfortable, airy, nicely decorated room with good space between tables. Wait staff was pleasant, knowledgeable and all around terrific. We all had the delicious sauerbraten so I can't tell you about any of the other items on their very varied... More

great food, great view of the Shawangunk ridge if you can eat on the deck, excellent selection of beer. I particularly loved their french fries, but their food was excellent all around, pretty typical hearty german fare. I would've given 5 stars but initial service was a bit rigid, and a bit slow. Will definitely return, and recommend to others

We made the scenic trip from Long Island to come to our favorite German eatery. Except for the overwhelming crowd and over 2 hr wait due to the fall weekend, we thoroughly enjoyed our jaeger schnitzel (favorite entree) and was surprised with a slice of chocolate mousse cake for my birthday by the owner Ilka and the staff. Thanks for... More

Be aware of what you are ordering. We stopped in for lunch at 12:30pm and decided to sit at the bar to eat. There is a trifold menu with listings for lunch on the far right page. The bartender asked if I knew what I wanted and I said I wanted a schnitzel. There was only one listed for lunch... More

Hello, I'm so sorry about your dissatisfaction with your lunch experience yesterday. We strive to have a friendly, informative & attentive staff, and we obviously fell short. Servers & Bar staff should confirm which items are being ordered, and point out all of your options. We recently added the Lunch & Dinner headings, which were intended to simplify the menu... More

After a great morning hike in the hills around Lake Minnewaska my wife and I had lunch at the Mountain Brauhaus on a beautiful autumn Sunday. In need of some liquid refreshment, I enjoyed the large Spaten Lager, and my wife had some German wheat beers. We got to the Brauhaus before the Sunday crush and were seated quickly, and... More

I have never been to Germany but I sure hope it as good as the food at this place. The homemade pretzels are a great appetizer with a nice large stein of beer. The soups are very hearty and filling. I had a roasted steak in a red sauce the meat just melted in my mouth. The places gets crowd... More

If you are looking for old world charm, go to Moutain Brauhaus Restaurant. The food is terrific, the employees great and the restraunt is like going back in time. It is a must see but if you are going on the prime weekends, make sure to make reservations since our wait was 2 hours but it was worth it.

We arrived and had an 1.5 hour wait. So we ordered some pretzels and cheese at the bar. The pretzels were ok, more like a large piece of fresh bread (which isn't bad just unexpected). I could of gone without the cheese. The hostess seated us and was warm and friendly. Our waitress, although very sweet, was a bit slow... More

When people dining in an ethnic restaurant appear to have an accent of that ethnicity, you must be in the right place. The Brauhaus serves wonderful sauerbraten, beef remoulade, and authentic German beers. Servers are dressed in cute costumes and know their menus well. A vegan in our party was advised that the sauerkraut did have bacon and the server... More
