A good stable standard in the midst of mostly true authentic cuisine restaurants

As a native New Yorker, born and raised, it's always fun to venture into the true cuisine of a nation as long as you have a guide. With Chinese food, there is a huge disparity between "American" Chinese food and authentic Chinese cuisine. Joe's bridges that gap very well - "American" Chinese food... read more

Our son has been raving about soup dumplings. When we came to NY he had to bring us to Joe's Shanghai in Flushing for soup dumplings. We'd never tried them before, so watched as he and his fiancé and her mom showed us the technique for eating them. Nibble off the top of the dumpling then sip the soup. 5... More

This was the most authentic Chinese food and it was light with a great taste. It was worth the 11/2hour wait. Very fun and relaxing atmosphere.

Love this place especially the dumplings are so good. If you go here you have to try the Dumplings in a basket. I also loved the plum chicken dish. This is real chinese food a little different from American style chinese but very very Good if not better. If you go at night be prepared for a long wait but... More

Even my Chinese friend from work raves about this restaurant. While he grew up in Flushing he now lives in New Jersey and drives over an hour and a half to eat here. It is that good. The food is extremely fresh and not oily like many western oriented take outs. This is authentic Asian cuisine. The service is very... More

Joe Shanghai is my favorite dumpling restaurant,i was travel to Asia countries, Compare other dumpling store in Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore etc, still this place is the best dumpling. The only way, you really need to eat at the restaurant. Love this place so much.

The soup dumplings at this place were great, which is what it is known for, but in my opinion the peanut butter noodles were out of control! Great spot for a family style meal, order a bunch of stuff and have fun.

If you are a dumpling fan, then run don't walk to Joe's Shanghai restaurant. Bring cash, as charge cards are not accepted, and if you do not like noise, take along a pair of ear plugs. Forget atmosphere and do not even attempt to bring a loved one here for a romantic evening, as this is order, eat up, and... More

I've been coming here for great crab dumplings for many years. It does get quite busy, so if you're a big party, it may be a wait. Or if you're not willing to share tables, then it will be a long wait as well. The soup crab dumplings are great. They don't really break that easily but you still have... More
