Tried the Bistro 223 tonight. Two vegans and one meat eater and we were excited for a place that had options for all of us. We got there around 5:15 or so and some guy at the bar told us to have seat, the owner would be right back. I think he may have been the only one there at... More

The owner/chef/manager is a very interesting man and we were glad to have the opportunity to have a meal in his establishment. It is the sort of encounter that makes traveling fun. We had a little trouble locating the place although it is right on the river in the center of town. We didn't know the east/west address system but... More

It's small, with a combination Mediterranean and Indian dishes that are beautifully presented and flavorful. The place serves hearty glasses of wine and... More

Just had lunch at the Bistro and enjoyed it immensely. Max was a great host and even posponed his afternoon fishing trip to cook and wait on us. As an added treat he gave us some great tasting homemade ice cream on the house. Will be returning soon. Chevy and the teacher

Delicious - every single meal. Max loves to cook and gives care to each customer as if you were a guest in his home.

Went to Elmira for a wedding, and was starving from the flight. We found Bistro 223 right on Water St. down from the Holiday Inn and stopped in. Max the cook/waiter/partner was such a delight, he is very modest about his skills as a chef. The food was wonderful, sandwich with roasted turkey (homemade not processed), spicy pumpkin soup, and...
