New chef, delicious food, good choices, lovely hotel. Right on the lake. Some dining opportunities on the wide porch. Costs are relatively high but really good food, preparation, and atmosphere. Delightful dining room.

What a delight to sit out outside and enjoy a wonderful dinner while staring out at the Lake. It was peaceful and spectacular. The food was incredible. The staff was attentive and quick to take care of our needs in spite of the large crowd.

We went mainly to check out the old hotel; it did seem to have lost its list re. Breakfast buffet was a good value with many traditional classic dishes not readily available elsewhere. Servers were a very sweet brother and sister. Rocking chairs and free Wifi there, maybe even a cup of coffee if you know your way around.

The food was generally good, although we experienced a number of service issues. We had a total of seven dinners, seven breakfasts, one lunch, and two wine & tapas in the late afternoon. For breakfast, there is a fairly extensive buffet. The items that were intended to be hot, however, were sometimes room temperature or just plain cold. They have... More

Well, eating at the Chautauqua Institute is not really very pleasant. Most food is mediocre at best. So we decided to splurge for dinner one night. Glad we did. At least we had one good meal while the week we were there. The artichoke dip appetizer accompanied by toasted baguette was terrific. The steaks were nice and tender although the... More

Hard to complain about a restaurant that faces Lake Chautauqua with a wrap sound patio for your choice of dining. The interior dining room is grand with light flooding in that gave us a sense of bygone years not found in many places. The food was fair priced with an early bird tapas menu if you dine before 6pm. Our... More

The Heirloom is the restaurant inside the Athenaeum Hotel on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY. The hotel is wonderful. By all means, treat yourself to a stay at the hotel. We've stayed there before and would like to stay there again. We've also eaten in the main dining facility there before and found it to be... More

If you can get a table on the porch the view is incredible. They have tried to expand the menu to offer more casual fare but the hours they are offered are limited and the selection is also limited. The food is alright but if I am going to spend a lot on a meal I want a better dining... More

We stayed at the Atheneum and this restaurant is located in the hotel. Food is overpriced for what you get. Servers are very good, I would not eat there for dinner. Breakfast is all right.

I have dined at the restaurant at the Athenaeum a number of times and heard it was under new management; once of the major changes is a set menu rather than daily. There are enough choices to please someone even staying for a week. On Fridays a dinner buffet was available which looked fine but I opted for a menu... More
