Great local restaurant!

The Charlton Tavern is a terrific local restaurant. Although it was devastated by a fire a while back it has been lovingly rebuilt to it's former warm & cozy colonial charm atmosphere. Booked the back room for a club luncheon for 15 people. The room was set up nicely and everything went well until we had to wait 45+/- minutes to get our food.UNACCETABLE. I had to go get our waiter "Viggo" who was operating on slow uninspired speed. We were there last April 2014 for a similar luncheon and everything was... More

Hadn't been the the Charlton Tavern in a couple of years, so wife and I went for my birthday. With reservations at 6, we were greeted by the owner, and given our choice of seats. Since we like to chat during dinner, we sat away from the bar. Service was very attentive, with a waitress arriving for drink and appetizer... More

Great atmosphere like an historic country tavern. Charming hostess seated us at a high top table near the fireplace and bar area, romantic and cozy. Thanks. Great waiter, cordial and efficient. My wife loved the salmon and crab cake. I went old-school, selecting liver and onions,..prepared to perfection. The hostess thanked us on our way out, we will be back... More

I have been to Charlton Tavern about six times now and love the rustic charm of the place. However, every time I have dined at the restaurant there has always been some sort of issue. This time I had asked the server if they had reading glasses since I had forgotten mine. She never got back to me about the... More

This is definitely a cozy, perfect-in-winter sort of place. Which is why I was surprised to find myself ordering a salad on my last visit, and even more surprised at how hearty and wonderful it was. Hubby and I have been trying to reduce/eliminate gluten. This restaurant has very few options for folks like us. Great tavern menu, but heavy... More

Last night's visit to the Charlton Tavern continued a noticed trend that restaurants on busy weekend nights and during quieter week-day visits, can have 2 surprising different exepriences, and the opoosite of expected. Back during the holiday season, two dinners at the Tavern during a busy Friday evening with lines packed at the door, re-established our love for this place.... More

It would be delicious. We have been coming here for years, and feel like it is a second home. The food will never be "the best I ever had" - but it is consistently good and served by a friendly and caring staff. If you come a few times, you will get to know Mike and the staff by first... More

We have been going to the "Tavern" for the past 5 years and have not had a meal. Michael and Sue are terrific owners who go out of their way to make sure that the food is great and the atmosphere warm and upbeat. The specials are unique and always delightful. I would suggest reservations Friday and Saturday nights as... More
