Great for italian food not seafood

Visited this restaurant during the winter months with a friend. Upon our arrival it appeared that this restaurant was not the most popular on the island but the staff was friendly. The restaurant itself was pretty large with an outside deck that would be great to dine on in the warmer months. The... read more

Worst customer service experience ever! We purchased a Groupon certificate, made a reservation and after driving over two hours back and forth and paying $10 in tolls to get there, we were told by the rudest manager ever that he was not accepting it that day. We showed him that the certificate didn't mention not being able to use it... More

I was so looking forward to my girls 50th birthday BUT was let down. The valet parking is shared with another restaurant and the workers all seemed lazy and not interested in getting the cars situated. As I walked into the restaurant there was no hostess at the front. I then walked to the bar to find three employees chatting.... More

The food was sub par. When I called for the reservation (noon on a rainy Sunday) they told me that I could come at 10:00pm. I negotiated to 5:30pm. When we got there the place was basically empty and it remained empty for the entire time. They don't have a crowd and that tells you something. The location is great... More

We found this place through a Groupon... We found this to be a nice little gem of a restaurant.... When you order something and your waiter recommends maybe you should try something else listen to him... Not that there was a problem with our selection but he made us aware of the specials and he was absolutely right... They have... More

We went to Portofino's for a girls night out dinner. The food had highs and not-so-highs!! Same could be said about the staff and service. The upshot is this: both the food and the service improved progressively during the evening. The staff did confess they were swamped near the time of our arrival (at 7:15pm); they had had two weddings,... More

Went there for a birthday dinner. We ordered the Surf and Turf: the steak was not great, and the lobster tail was adequate. The service left a lot to be desired, and my "bithday" desser did not get acknowledged despite the fact that my husband reqested a candle when making the reservation. The place is tired looking. Nothing was "terrible"... More

Went for late lunch/early dinner. The Menus were a bit tattered & need a bit of sprucing up Don't order anything that's fried if your into the fresh sort of thing. We started with the Calamari & it was like it was deep fried 10x & taste like it wasn't real, the Potato thing on my husband's plate look like... More

Portofino Restaurant is on City Island, an offshoot of the Bronx. City Island was famous in the 1950s and 1960s for clam bars. People from the Bronx loaded on to the bus and went for day trips. It was not far from Orchard Beach, another short trip from City Island. City Island was always an Irish and Italian enclave, and... More
