We went to Portofino's for a girls night out dinner. The food had highs and not-so-highs!! Same could be said about the staff and service. The upshot is this: both the food and the service improved progressively during the evening. The staff did confess they were swamped near the time of our arrival (at 7:15pm); they had had two weddings,... More

Went there for a birthday dinner. We ordered the Surf and Turf: the steak was not great, and the lobster tail was adequate. The service left a lot to be desired, and my "bithday" desser did not get acknowledged despite the fact that my husband reqested a candle when making the reservation. The place is tired looking. Nothing was "terrible"... More

Went for late lunch/early dinner. The Menus were a bit tattered & need a bit of sprucing up Don't order anything that's fried if your into the fresh sort of thing. We started with the Calamari & it was like it was deep fried 10x & taste like it wasn't real, the Potato thing on my husband's plate look like... More

Portofino Restaurant is on City Island, an offshoot of the Bronx. City Island was famous in the 1950s and 1960s for clam bars. People from the Bronx loaded on to the bus and went for day trips. It was not far from Orchard Beach, another short trip from City Island. City Island was always an Irish and Italian enclave, and... More

Was skeptical at first from reading other people reviews but as the saying goes don't judge until you try it yourself. I love the atmosphere soooooo romantic it was our anniversary so the place was a great match. Our waiter was wonderful recommending the Sauvignon Blanc which my boyfriend and I enjoy very much. The food was AWESOME and not... More

Went with another couple on the Surf and Turf groupon. Thank god I didn't read the other reviews beforehand or I probably would never had went there. Our server Douglas was excellent. Attentive and thorough but not overbearing. The appetizers (calamari, eggplant rollatini, stuffed mushrooms, fried mozzarella, and baked clams were all very good. The Surf and Turf entrees were... I had a groupon and figured it would be a great ride on a sunny day. The service was disorganized, the food was REALLY BAD and I would have been really angry if we didn't have the groupon.

We came to Portofino late on a Thursday night. We had a groupon that included two appetizers, surf n turf entrees, a bottle of wine, and dessert to share. We sat on the deck and it was absolutely beautiful, albeit a little chilly. The only other table was I am assuming the owner and his guests. We had white zinfandel,... More
