DINNER AT SHARKEY'S

Went on a dinner date to Sharkey's with my wife and my brother and his wife and kids. First let me state one thing out of the gate. This restaurant's decor is old, very old, but clean. So if you are the type of person worried about that, this place is not for you. With that aside we had several... read more

Someone wrote that Sharkey's is old. That is an under statement. I first started going there in the 60's and for the most part the interior is exactly the same as it was back then. I confess I have always liked their pizza. While not quite as good as it was in the 60's and 70's it is still pretty... More

We recently stopped at Sharkey's after visiting relatives in Binghamton. This was our go-to place many, many years ago for clams and spiedies, and I was very excited to be back. The building appeared to be exactly the same - meaning it is now very decrepit, but in a good funky way. Some in our party ordered halupkis and pierogis,... More

You are absolutely correct about Sharkey's -- the once-vaunted spiedies aren't what they used to be. I was there summer of 2012 and had much the same experience, Bo. The better spiedies in town are at Lupo's in Endicott, S&S on upper Court Street (I believe Lupos and S&S are owned by the same family) and even a few other... More

Born and raised in "Bimington", Sharkey's is an institution. It is the same now as it was almost 50 years ago when my parents would come here after a Saturday night out to load up on spiedies and steamed clams. As a teen, I spent many a Friday and/or Saturday night in the darkened booths in the back munching on... More

Go to Sharkey's to dive into the feel of Native Binghamtonians. It is delicious food, great prices, and simple atmosphere. Don't expect fancy. Don't expect catering service to your whim. And please don't hinge your hopes of a perfect special occasion here. My husband claims the pork spiedie was the best he has tasted. Simply marinated pork served on a... More

I grew up in this town, so there's always a "rose-coloured glasses" patina to this place, but after living in San Francisco for the last 30 years, I still stop in whenever I visit the Southern Tier. Their spiedies (look it up) are still quite good, the raw and steamed clams are fresh, tasty and quite the value at $5-something... More

I started going to Sharkey's in 1965, when I started college at Harpur College (now S.U.N.Y.) For a buck, you could--back then--have two spiedies and two bottles of Little Jenny, small bottles of Genesee Beer, often called panther piss. But it washed down the spiedies pretty well, was cheap, wouldn't get you drunk for the trip back to campus if... More

I've been going to Sharkeys since I was in college and it's always been the same place. Good spiedies, lousy furniture, decades old decor. But it was a local institution and you could count on the food and service to be consistently good, especially for the price. But today they ruined Father's Day. Our order, for 7 people, came out... Been going there since 1956, stop in when I go through Binghamton for clams and spiedies. Same owner all those years, same ambiance. A nice experience.
