Over the years we have several good meals and many good times here. Last year it seemed to be faltering but still had dome life to it. Not being locals we had no idea that it had ceased trading when we came out recently. This pub used to have a lovely feel and great catering and food. Now its left... More

Title says all that needs to be said. Apparently I have to write more to achieve a 100 character limit - so I will add that it's a bit sad because I thought it was going well - decent food and excellent service and care. let's hope the closure is temporary.

Upon arriving at the black boy our group had already arrived. We sat down and after 10 minutes of no one taking our drink order we went to the bar even though we were the only table in the restaurant. We didn't order starters but when our main course came we were highly disappointed. I had the lamb shank which... More

We had a wedding lunch for our daughter Sally and new husband John on 11th October 2013. Roast beef with all the trimmings followed by lemon cheesecake was served to 46 guests. Never tasted such tender beef and the cheesecake was so light I don't think it had any calories! The log fire created a warm welcome on a rather... More

Decided to take my grandparents for lunch at the Black Boy. Not having been before we had no idea what to expect. The rain was tipping it down and so the blazing fire was very welcoming when we got inside! The staff were very friendly and had us sat down and drinks bought to the table straight away. We happened... More

We have eaten at The Black Boy several times over the past year, but we are sad to report that standards are dropping. We have always taken friends there for a Sunday roast lunch but have to report that the food quality is not as it used to be, the meat used to be superb but sadly on our last... More

Attended as one of a party - pre booked. Service was friendly and efficient, food good, and location lovely. Fantastic views.

We went on Saturday night at the last minute, and the fact that I was told they had no other reservations should have set the alarm bells ringing. When we arrived there was a small group at the bar and only one table with two people in the restaurant, not a great sign at 20:30. The greeting from staff however... More

I went to the Black Boy in Oving on Saturday night. We were not sure what to expect so we were pleasently surprised. There was a good choice, plenty of it and it arrived hot to the table. Unfortunately, the atmopshere let the whole place down. In the restaurant the lighting was very bright, with uncovered light bulbs - one... More

When reviewing a venue I go to great lengths to be as balanced as I possibly can but on this occasion it simply cannot be done. The restaurant area area was empty and yet we were put on a table in a corner so we asked to be moved to the window where we can look at the wonderful view... More
