Good Sunday Lunch

Visited with friends on their recommendation. Not disappointed. The owner and staff were very friendly and we were served promptly even though the dining room was busy. The food was of a good pub standard and fairly priced. Very relaxed atmosphere and tables set just far enough apart from each... read more

I haven't been to this pub/restaurant for a long time but needed dinner en route back from my day out. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food was much better than I would expect from 'a pub'. We were early for dinner so we did catch a quiet time before it started filling up for the evening. We even... More

6 of us enjoyed a lovely Saturday evening in the Black Boy, under new management the menu is also new. Plenty of choices but not so many to complicate things. Portion sizes were also about right and all of us had 3 courses each, 18 servings that everyone was happy with! The young lady who served us was polite, efficient... More

We visited The Black Boy for lunch and were really impressed with the selection of food on offer. The Special of King Prawns in tomato sauce was delicious and the prawns were cooked perfectly. The portion sizes were generous and the food was priced very fairly. Excellent service from Paul and fantastic views over the countryside. Can't wait to visit... More

We have been meaning to try out this pub for a while now and based on recent reviews of new ownership and improvements we went there for lunch. Starters were well presented and very tasty. Loved the chicken goujons with chilli sauce! The chilli beef was also very good. Main courses were descent size portions. Vegetables and sauces with whole... More

We went here last night with my brother and his wife, lovely fire roaring as we walked in. We had no problem getting a table, we weren't rushed to order our food and we casually enjoyed wine and nibbles around the fire area before we were shown to our table. Paul looked after us very well and the waiting staff... More

Went to this lovely pub with a friend last night. It was built in 1600 according to the plaque above the door, on entering the warmth from the fire envelopes you. The food was delicious, the service was amazing and the welcome very warm. The menu was extensive for a small pub and they also have a good children's menu.... More

We're locals and have watched the ups and downs of the Black Boy for years. We are impressed by what the new landlord has done. The food is much much better and is a good blend of higher-end pub-grub and has some imaginative dishes. There is now a local bitter on all the time (this has included Chiltern and XT).... More

Great relaxing lunch with a couple of families. Burgers superb and a well kept drop of XT. Could not fault it. The improvements to the decor starting to make the place feel much more contemporary but cosy too.
