Have eaten here a few times and always been satisfied. However, this restaurant is not cheap and the menu is limited to only about half a dozen choices. Most restaurants have at least 8-10 choices. The portions are not exactly generous either. So not much to choose from. I paid £8 for an after dinner ,very small glass of port! Was... More

I've been here a couple of times with the family but went for the first time with my girlfriend the other day after having not been in a while. I knew the food was good but i'd forgotten it was THIS good!! Arguably one of the best if not THE best steak i've ever had. Cooked perfectly and not a... More

We have taken friends here for an evening meal twice in the last four weeks. The booking was not only easy but very personal. On both occasions there was a warm welcome and we were given the same table. The service was excellent and the food exceptional. We will definitely use this for special occasions. Steve and Zoe.

We had used this restaurant on a very regular basis over about 12 years, through two different owners, always first class and had good reputation. Haven't been for about 5 years, heard mixed reviews. Decided we would like to try it for a special occasion dinner, 8 of us. Popped in just before 2 on a Thursday lunchtime. Initially we... More

I visited the Chequers on the recommendation of the B&B owners where I was staying. Warm atmosphere, extremely friendly reception and immaculate presentation. I sat by a roaring log fire and ate one of the best meals I have eaten for a while. The food was perfectly presented without excessively fancy flourishes and with all the focus on flavour. Quite... I visited the pub with my elderly mother. The girl behind the bar couldn't have been more welcoming suggesting where my mother could most easily sit. We only wanted something light so had two starters (plus the day's bonne bouche of fish bisque. All very good - we'll be back for a full meal next time.

We are so short of quality food pubs in our area but were pleased to reacquaint ourselves with The Chequers just before Christmas. We went there with a group of friends and received very efficient service from the time of booking to the end of our evening. We ordered from the Christmas menu which was varied, well resented and of... More

The is one place you need to visit, the food here is Fantastic, the staff are very helpful and the atmosphere is very relaxing. My wife and I have eaten here three time within the last month and I cannot fault this place, by far the best place to eat in the area.
