It's difficult to describe what just happened. Both times I've been to this little spot--there were five tables tonight but only three occupied--I've been blown away. There's nothing more ubiquitous than vegetable soup, but this one was a notch above, in a clear broth with just the right amount of veggies and spice. The party really started with the Thai... More

I have been coming to Byzantium with my family for years the food is alway incredible, the service is always friendly and the atmosphere is so cozy. Most recently I had the halibut, the coconut broth is to die for! Byzantium is always first on my list when I'm in Taos!

The first time we dined here, it was wonderful! The Halibut was extraordinary...it melted in our mouth and had just the perfect balance of great spice. But the last time we dined here (a couple of nights ago), it was awful. The butter/wine sauce in the mussels was very salty, and the Halibut was probably Cod instead of Halibut! It... More

Prudence and I introduced another couple from Taos to the Byzantium Restaurant for dinner last Saturday night. Scott, the owner and Maître de, greeted us warmly. We all had different main courses (Steamed Mussels, Sea Food stew, Halibut and Pork Tenderloin). Our friend had a Belgian beer, Prudence and I had a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc to compliment our food. Then... More

My toes have finally reestablished communication with my body and my fingers thawed enough to use a keypad. Tried out Byzantium for my wife's 71st birthday. Party of seven. Very satisfactory wine selection. Food quality was mixed. Spinach salad heavenly. Holy Grail of filet mignon cookery: seared on the outside, very rare AND HOT on the inside. The seafood cazuela... Thoroughly enjoyed the spinach salad, bread/orange-grapefruit marmalade, and pork roast meal. The owners personal attention to service & detail was excellent!

Make a reservation, or risk losing this beautiful dining experience. You start a bit confused about where you're supposed to enter or whether or not you're in the right place. It's a small one room establishment filled with romance and strutting intimacy. Once settled in, you understand this will be more than a meal...it will be an experience. The food... More

Christmas eve dinner. We made reservations, but had the place mostly to ourselves. It's a small place, only 12 tables with an open kitchen. They've been there for 20+ years, same owner. The food is very good and very creative. I must admit, it is quite expensive. My wife and I shared an entree and an appetizer, two drinks and... More

My wife and I love this restaurant for its intimate ambiance, artfully prepared food, sensual deserts, and joyful owner/chef. And, did I mention good value and a nice selection of reasonably-priced wines? The menu, like the seating capacity, is small but covers all bases. Some reviewers have sited the Byzantium for slow service. Call us old-fashioned, but we still enjoy... More
