Small, intimate, delicious

The owner took our 7:00 Thursday reservation, greeted us, sat us, took our order, served us, collected our bill and then pulled up a chair and chatted with us for an hour. He has a chef, but not sure how much the owner contributes to the cooking. My sister had the halibut, which she gushed over... read more

Scott is the mastermind in the kitchen and will serve you, because Byzantium is Scott's inspiration. A dimly lit, romantic restaurant with a small but excellent menu. I love the warm spinach salad, and have had beautifully prepared fish and meat dishes. Great wine selection, and leave room for dessert, because Scott usually has something that is the perfect ending... More

Great food, beautiful ambiance. The owner was our server, and he was very attentive. The halibut rocked!

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing! I fell in Love with this gem the second I walked through the door! Very intimate. Gorgeous decor. Very comfortable and a feel of home. Food was exquisite! We shared a bottle of red. I had the mussels and he had the pork. OMG!!! The best mussels I have ever had and I'm from California! The pork... More

Located in the central part of town, Byzantium is a gem. Although the restaurant is in a spacious room, there are a total of approximately 7 tables, giving you a lot of room and privacy. My guess is that the limited number of seats is because it is a two-man operation; the owner is the maitre d and waiter while... More

It's difficult to describe what just happened. Both times I've been to this little spot--there were five tables tonight but only three occupied--I've been blown away. There's nothing more ubiquitous than vegetable soup, but this one was a notch above, in a clear broth with just the right amount of veggies and spice. The party really started with the Thai... More

I have been coming to Byzantium with my family for years the food is alway incredible, the service is always friendly and the atmosphere is so cozy. Most recently I had the halibut, the coconut broth is to die for! Byzantium is always first on my list when I'm in Taos!

The first time we dined here, it was wonderful! The Halibut was extraordinary...it melted in our mouth and had just the perfect balance of great spice. But the last time we dined here (a couple of nights ago), it was awful. The butter/wine sauce in the mussels was very salty, and the Halibut was probably Cod instead of Halibut! It... More

Prudence and I introduced another couple from Taos to the Byzantium Restaurant for dinner last Saturday night. Scott, the owner and Maître de, greeted us warmly. We all had different main courses (Steamed Mussels, Sea Food stew, Halibut and Pork Tenderloin). Our friend had a Belgian beer, Prudence and I had a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc to compliment our food. Then... More

My toes have finally reestablished communication with my body and my fingers thawed enough to use a keypad. Tried out Byzantium for my wife's 71st birthday. Party of seven. Very satisfactory wine selection. Food quality was mixed. Spinach salad heavenly. Holy Grail of filet mignon cookery: seared on the outside, very rare AND HOT on the inside. The seafood cazuela...
