Nice medley of fusion vegetarian food

Great mix of food that is all vegetarian as well as gluten free and vegan options. Enjoyed our time here. Good service and enjoyed food and environment.

I love the homemade chai, the mint lemonade, and all the specials keep it so interesting. I never get tired of this place. The food is so obviously prepared with love and expertise!

While in town for an extended weekend we had 1 vegetarian, 1 vegan and 2 carnivores in our group. After searching for a good restaurant that would appeal to all of us we decided to give El Gamal a try. The atmosphere was very casual and funky, in a good way, and the smells were delicious. Unfortunately it went down... More

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stumble upon this place on a day trip to Taos. The service, food, and atmosphere were outstanding. We sat in the cushioned area (there are regular tables as well), which was very comfortable. The soup was flavorful, the falafel sandwiches were spiced well and everything was fresh. We also had these amazing... More

We highly recommend this restaurant for couples seeking a night out AND to families -- there is room for both! We went during their East Indian night where live music, perfect lighting, and great aromas filled the air. The server was knowledgeable and accommodating and the food was phenomenal. You can feel all the good intentions that go into this... More

I have been to El Gamel a few times, and now it is an absolute must every time I go to Taos. The food is authentic and exceptional. The smoked eggplant with tahini and olive oil is TO DIE FOR! Its modest decor is welcoming, but it's the integrity of the food that keeps me going back.

The food was very good, but the cook was cranky and rude and wouldn't listen to my instruction about not warming the soup to boiling point, which made real damper to the experience. The soul was good once it cooled down!

We live in Taos and love to walk to El Gamal for breakfast or lunch. It is a two-minute walk off of the main plaza in a quiet, peaceful setting. We really enjoy Indian night on the occasional Thursday evening, complete with chilled-out live music and a special Indian menu. It is a place to hang out, to relax, to... More

Located off the beaten path, but close to the shopping, we were looking for a restaurant with a lighter menu and came up El Gamal. Small business restaurant, but very welcoming. My friends had the Beet salad and I had a falafal - lots of food and very good. Open 7 days a week from 9 to 9, reasonable, less... More

Why does El Gamal receive such wildly differing reviews on Tripadvisor? This past month's visits, a Saturday morning followed by the next Monday morning, explained the mystery to me. The first visit on this trip to Taos? Exemplary food, reasonably priced, perfectly prepared, with friendly and efficient service. The freshness and flavors of the falafel, hummus, pita, salad, fries, and... More
