Green chile heaven

Stopped here on the advise of family who said the green chile cheeseburger can't be missed. They were right! It was a giant griddled beef patty, too big for the bun, smothered in cheese and plenty of spicy green chiles. Very tasty! It's one of 2 places that claim to have the best one. I can... read more

We heard so much about the Owl we had to check it out. The cheeseburger was okay but somewhat greasy. My curiosity was satisfied.

We stopped there twice in the past several weeks, had green chile cheese burgers, chile cheese fries, and beer. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: - great tasting burgers - fresh and hot green chile - interesting and friendly ambiance Cons: - burgers are served on tiny plate and are a mess to eat - close inspection of the... More

The hamburgers are still great and so is the green chili. The atmosphere and history are pure small town New Mexico. They live up to their reputation. We'll keep sending back our pictures to them. They actually framed and hung the ones we took in Poland.

Yes, I have heard that if you travel by San Antonio New Mexico, you have to stop for the famous "Owl Cafe Green Chile Cheeseburger". So when we drove to Albuquerque we did just that. This is a "hole in the wall" bar and cafe where you can get a bottle of beer for $2.95 and a green chile cheeseburger... More

I had the green chili cheeseburger and beans with green chilies. Loved them both! We also had the chili cheese fries--also great, but would ask for way less cheese sauce next time. Great atmosphere. Service was fast and server was very nice.

There is an abundance of green chili burgers in the Socorro area and after a few days of burgers, I decided to try the BLT. It was very good! Those in my group who had burgers raved about them; I had eaten burgers here before. The server was nice.

Having graduated from the local university in 1981, I spent a lot of time eating green chili cheeseburgers at this establishment and became part of the 'cult-like' following. I visited in the late 1990s and enjoyed the green chili cheeseburger again. Recently, I passed through the area specifically for a cheeseburger. Somehow, against all odds, the green chili cheese burgers... More

The Owl Bar is a famous dive, with deep historical roots in New Mexico, most notably because it was the favorite hang out for the physicists working on the Manhattan Project. It is a family run place, and you can immediately feel the quirky anachronistic character. The decor probably hasn't changed for the greater part of a century. It is... More

The Owl is famous for their green chile cheeseburger. Playboy magazine named them best in the nation a few years back. It's a fun place with decent food and a funky "Old School Bar" feel. Good for a quick burger and brew.
