The Mine Shaft is a big reason I go to Madrid

This is a cool place. The bar was originally built for the miners who worked the mines in Madrid and was designed as a stand up bar for those poor guys who were hunched over all day. I had a long day of hiking in the area and wanted to hit Madrid to see where several movies, including "Wild Hogs" were filmed and to relax a bit. Glad I made my first stop The Mine Shaft. It had it all. Relaxing atmosphere, friendly locals and tourists, cold drinks, good food (if not just slightly pricey, but the... More

Worth stopping here just for the cool setting, both within the building and around the grounds. Getting a cold drink or something to eat is a bonus.

Great food and service every time! Best place for live music! Signature drinks with a wonderful community. Just had the chicken fried steak tonight and it was amazing! Who knew collard greens could be so delicious!

After hearing all week about this place, there was no question where I would be stopping for lunch when we came here. Beating the lunch motorcycle rush, we were seated along the window on the creaky wood floor. Quickly being served a local brew, we ordered their famous burger and fries. I was not disappointed in the slightest. The burger... More

I got the shroom burger which was delicious. The wild mushrooms make the burger top notch. Ask for the spicy ketchup as it goes great with the fries and any burger ordered. Autumn served us and was very accommodating and helpful. She put a smile on everyone's face.

No matter your direction on the infamous Turquoise Trail you will eventually wind up in Madrid, NM. While there are several cafe-like establishments along the drag you need to visit The Mine Shaft if not for lunch then for a beer. The building and its interior are as original as you can get dating to the mid-1940's. It is warm... More

we always stop at the Mine Shaft when traveling in the Madrid area. Very considerate and friendly staff. The food is wonderful and they have some of the hottest green chile around if you ask for it. Great cold beer too.
