The building is fantastic, the decor in the restaurant and lounge is classic but not very well kept. Service was extremely slow, food came out luke warm and wasn't very good. If you want to go for the history, it's worth it. If you're going for a great dinner, pick another spot.

As historic an interesting as the hotel is, we (three of us) thought the food (Mexican) was OK but nothing special in taste or presentation. The special Margueritas were a tad sweet, despite the Herredura tequila. The room was not full on the evening except for a couple of tables of Route 66 followers who went granular on the 'Mother... On the recommendation of a friend, we stopped to eat dinner here on our way to the Grand Canyon. So glad we did! The food on the menu is named after various movie stars who have stayed at the hotel in the past (during the Golden Age of film). I chose the John Wayne Burger (which was basically a hamburger... On the way to Arizona, we stopped at El Racho Hotel and had dinner and breakfast. Both were well served, but at dinner time the waiter forgot one of our appetizers and there was a lady that started vacuun cleaning for the next day, but she was kind enough to ask if we minded, and she stopped

According to what we were told, the facility opened in 1937, then later fell into disrepair and was slated for demolition by the City. Thankfully, it was saved and restored and it's definitely worth a stop for a tour in addition to the food. In its "first life", the hotel served as the headquarters for numerous movies filmed in the... More

We spent the night in Grants and drove to Gallup for breakfast. I had heard about El Rancho and wanted to see it. It's worth a stop just to see the lobby, but the food at the restaurant was delicious. I had huevos rancheros. Very nice gift shop as well!

Went here on several recommendations (hotel and guide books). Great interior and super ambience. Efficient and friendly service. Offered plate of tacos and salsa to start with, I had steak and enchiladas which was more than satisfactory, and my partner had chicken fajitas which she enjoyed. Good portions. Definitely recommended.

We stopped in for lunch on our drive to New Mexico, once you walk in you get this somewhat awe feeling looking at the lobby. The double staircase makes it look stately and you can get a sense of what it would've been like in its full glory days when all those classic movie stars stayed there. The restaurant was... More

The food is very good but equally fun is just reading the menu. The menu is essentially a movie narrative with entrees for lunch and dinner named after celebrities. It's fun to try and remember which films they were in. We had both dinner and breakfast here and really enjoyed both. The Southwest flavors are genuinely good and our waitress,... More

On entering the lobby, I was completely distracted by the plethora of things to look at and the huge dark timbers in the space. Upstairs where the restrooms are the walls are covered in autographed photos of olden day film stars who stayed on location at this hotel - a lot of fun remembering them on screen. The restaurant itself... More
