Worth a stop

On previous travels through Gallup I have always wanted to stop and explore. The El Rancho proved to be very historic and well worth the stop. I had the Mexican combination plate and it was excellent. They had a large number of selections on the menu including Mexican food and sandwiches.

if your travels take you through Gallup, this is a must stop! So much history here and the menu is varied enough to satisfy any appetite. Also great margaritas!

My daughter and I wanted dinner on a Sunday evening and we didn't want to eat at a chain restaurant. El Rancho was authentic and colorful.

We really enjoyed eating here. The food is ok, but a little overpriced for Gallup, NM. The lobby is beautiful and fun to walk around. They have an elevator that is so old that it doesn't have buttons and one has to ask the front desk clerk to run it. Of course my kids loved that! It is fun to... More

The setting is from a by-gone area of the 1930's. Picturesque and fun. I thought the food was very mediocre at best but others in our group said it was fine.

Stayed at the hotel a number of years ago and enjoyed it. Stopped here for lunch on a drive from Phoenix to Santa Fe. Loved the salsa and chips, salsa spicy at great. Share a taco plate of chicken and beef tacos. Not great but tasty. The restaurant is in a memorable hotel worth stopping to look around.

The building is fantastic, the decor in the restaurant and lounge is classic but not very well kept. Service was extremely slow, food came out luke warm and wasn't very good. If you want to go for the history, it's worth it. If you're going for a great dinner, pick another spot.

As historic an interesting as the hotel is, we (three of us) thought the food (Mexican) was OK but nothing special in taste or presentation. The special Margueritas were a tad sweet, despite the Herredura tequila. The room was not full on the evening except for a couple of tables of Route 66 followers who went granular on the 'Mother... On the recommendation of a friend, we stopped to eat dinner here on our way to the Grand Canyon. So glad we did! The food on the menu is named after various movie stars who have stayed at the hotel in the past (during the Golden Age of film). I chose the John Wayne Burger (which was basically a hamburger...
