We were traveling through Gallup and asked for the best Mexican food in town. We were directed to Jerry's Cafe. This place is set up like an old time diner. Lots of booths of various sizes, but no tables. The food is second to none. Authentic Mexican food. Not the chain restaurant style. Not Tex-Mex. REAL Mexican food. The sopapillas... More

This is a great local place to stop on your I-40 road trip. The food is great and the experience of local vendors coming to your table to share you their crafts is pretty cool. It's a tiny cafe though so you might have to wait and big groups won't be easily accommodated.

I have stopped here twice on my way through NM. There are plenty of roadside, chain brand restaurants on the 40. Don't stop at these! Take the time to go downtown and eat at Jerry's. It's authentic NM food at it's best. The place is small and quaint to you may have to wait a bit, don't panic...The enchiladas with... More

Locals love this place. Not my favorite. The rice was overcooked and almost ketchup-y. The cheese in enchiladas, rellenos is the yellow, flavorless, greasy slickness kind that is popular in Gallup restaurants. No reason to go back.

This is the best meal I have had in Gallup. The staff is amazing and very attentive, the owner gets out and mingles, and the food is delicious. Prices were very reasonable and the serving portions, while huge, are not too much. If you want ambiance, this isn't what you are looking for, if you want great food, you should... More

I think some reviewers might cut Jerry's some slack. Gallup is a fairly gritty railroad town trying its best to stay on the map. You can't go there with Santa Fe dining expectations. Agreed: you can barely turn around in the bathroom at Jerry's (so tight it's almost funny). But otherwise, it's the perfect choice if you're looking for the... More

I visited based on the suggestion from Sunset Magazine. What a disaster! The food is below average Mexican, worse than you would eat at fast food joint. The place is run down and dismal. Felt sickly afterwards. Definitely would avoid .

We stopped for dinner. This is a local restaurant. SW New Mexico and American cuisine. I ordered the pork tamales. They were good with refried beans, rice and lettuce. Homemade tamales for certain. My partner had chicken taquitos. Also good. They do not have a liquor license. This is a diner, close atmosphere. Nothing fancy. Plain, down home.
