Amazing food!

I had the taco plate and my husband the tamale plate. Amazingly fresh and delicious. It is a small restautant off the beaten path but well-worth finding. Highly recommend.

This is one of those places that you'd never go into unless it was recommended, but it is a good little place, especially for Gallup. The tomales are super light and very good, and the enchiladas were good too. The owners were very sweet and friendly.

We were traveling through and were hungry. This place has good reviews. So we went there and it is a little drive from the highway, but it's totally worth. She made us fresh tamales, and it was the best I've ever had.

Transmission problems landed us overnight in Gallup and gave us the opportunity to discover Metate's restaurant. What a find, great down home Mexican food. The huevos rancheros were delicious and the eggs were perfect. The shredded beef gordita was excellent as well. Even the beans and rice were great! This is a small friendly family run spot .If you're looking... More

This place is very small and hard to find, but well worth the trip. Family owned and operated, even down to the children, it's what dining out used to be about. The food was wonderful and the tamales were the best my wife has ever eaten.

We ordered a la carte, each selecting the chorizo and egg burrito (fantastic!) and a tamale. The chorizo had incredible flavor, and what a treat to find fresh homemade tamales at a restaurant.

So glad I looked at Trip Advisor. This place has great food! We ordered tacos, shrimp fajitas, steak fajitas and the tamale combo. Everything was delicious. The sweet lady that waited on us had a warm smile and was accommodating. Fresh food with REAL Mexican cheese. Tamale wasn't dry and I asked for both red and green sauce on the... More

Great food, service was fabulous. Budget friendly while no sacrifice in quality. Definitely off the beat & path but worth the extra turns off the main drag.

Food had good flavor and taste. Clean, but the service was poor. It was okay, but my family was a little disappointed for being ranked high.

This little gem stands out in Gallups desert of places to eat. Homemade chips and spicy green salsa, tamales, carnitas and vieja ropa. ALL delicious !
