Authentic!

This is the only "mexican" restaurant in town that uses the cheeses and combinations that are traditionally found south of the border. They do ol' mexico food and New Mexico chili sauces, if you haven't had enough of them yet. The fish tacos and shrimp tacos are great. Friendly people. The... read more

How did anyone first find this restaurant? When I knew we'd be driving through Gallup, New Mexico (a city mentioned in the iconic song "Route 66"), I researched where to eat there. This place got glowing online reviews, so we decided to go. Luckily we had a GPS, because it is in a residential area way off the main highway,... More

The food was fresh and good..almost like homemade. Had green chile stew. Lots of parking available and the cashier made suggestions and knowledgeable about what and how the food is prepared.

7/27/2014 Outstanding! We were traveling through Gallup for just one night and found this on Yelp. Other reviews were right, it is in a residential neighborhood and it's not fancy at all. Owner was super friendly and very easy going. Four of us had the tamales and one had the fish tacos. Our only complaint was that we were too... More

The service was great, the food was an excellent new experience because we had never tasted chilis such as these before. When asked what chilis were used, la duena couldn't name them & said they are chosen by sight ---learned from her elders! Autentico!

This place is an absolute joke!!!!it is in a decrepit old building in a neighborhood ran by a woman and young boy who barely speak English. Food was bad and cold!!

Passing through New Mexico for the first time and used trip advisor as a reference for a place to stop for lunch. This restaurant was authentic, clean and the food was delicious. It's a little hard to find but once you do you'll be glad you stopped. I ordered a vegetarian burrito (no beans) with red chile sauce and it... More

Was referred to this Mexican restaurant by the hotel we are staying at. It was kind of hard to find this place, being in an older neighborhood of Gallup. Don't expect any fancy decorations or table settings. But the Mexican food was delicious and freshly prepared by this family owned place. Service was prompt and they brought our beverages right... During a 4 Corners trip, my husband and I stopped in Gallup to shop for Indian jewelry. After reading restaurant reviews on both Trip Advisor and Yelp, we decided to try El Metate Tamale Factory. As other reviewers stated, this is not a place to choose for fine dining. However, if you would like to enjoy good comfort food in... More

Looking for a place for dinner in Gallup, I checked my trusty " Trip Advisor" and again found a treasure. Like other reviewers stated it was located in a poorer neighborhood which many would overlook. I ordered the chicken gorditas and my husband had the asada dinner -both excellent choices. The salsa that came with the chips was very hot... More
