A big crowd usually means good food inside.

The front of the place looked a little rough, due to local highway construction, but the food and service inside was wonderful.

Ambience not great but ok. A little noisy at dinner hour to be expected. Service was great and food was better. Had the three enchilada plate with rice and beans. Hard to beat. Very authentic. Only complaint they allowed individuals to go to each table selling Navajo jewelry. A little tacky I thought. I will definitely be back. It's our... More

Virgie's would get a 3.5 stars if it were possible. Their refried beans are the best I've had in Gallup. The chicken enchiladas come with more chicken than any other place in Gallup: more than double that of Jerry's. The chips are heavy and overcooked. The salsa is average. The rice was either undercooked or was instant rice. The atmosphere... More

My companion grew up in Gallup. I had never been there, so when we got into town, and I said I was hungry, she said, "If we're going to eat New Mexican, we need to go to Virgies." I'm very happy we did It's a little out of town, but not that far. And it's a basic family restaurant in... More

We have been though here several times on vacation and always stop at Virgie's for authentic Mexican food. They also have steak and other traditional food in case some of your party does not like Mexican. It's nothing fancy but the food is good and that's the main thing so don't let the appearance fool you.

On the road dinner at 6:30. In Gallup, our two previous favorites had closed by this visit. We chose Virgie's because it was relatively near the motels in West Gallup. Cuisine: Mexican and American. Beer and wine available. Decor: New Mexico traditional with Navajo artifacts. Service was fast. Glass of merlot was full to the brim. My partner ordered the... More

Food was good and many locals frequent it. The only problem was the location. It sits between an adult book store and a massage parlor.

It was a little bit of a walk from the econo lodge but not too far for a good stretch of the legs after a day of travel. The food was outstanding.

First visited more than a year ago when Gallup natives suggested it for lunch. Returned this week when El Metate was closed. The approach, via Rte 66 west of town may be daunting. Virgie's is a family restaurant with a "Chinese Massage" studio nearby. Don't be put off. It really is a family place and the food is great. Loved... More

Our hotel recommended Virgie's Restaurant and I'm glad they did. This is a very homespun place clearly visited by the locals. Most of the choices are Mexican foods. We had fajitas. The corn tortillas were fabulous. The portions were large. The wine was under $5 a glass! There is nothing fancy or contrived about Virgie's which adds to its charm.
