Vergies Local Mexican Food

Vergies was referred to us by the hotel front desk attendant. Small local Mexican Restaurant - food was very good. Staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu. Chicken Enchiladas, Tamales, Green Chiles were excellent! Typical small town, local diner, but with very good food, hit the spot!

Don't get me wrong, I like Sedona and Santa Fe fine, but I love Gallup for it's honesty. If you are really up for a circa-1930s to early-1960's experience, stop overnight (or at least STOP) in Gallup, NM. It will not be perfect, but it will be authentic Route 66. Gallup is not Sedona or Santa Fe, and it wears... More

This place is the worst, if not the worst, its right near the top. Anyone who tells you the food here is good, needs help. Gordon Ramsey would run from this place screaming. The chips are old, the salsa has not flavor and the food we ordered was, well dare I say it, awful! The hotel were we stayed recommended... More

This family owned restaurant was just what the doctor ordered after a long day of driving west on I-40. We asked our hotel attendant where the locals eat nearby and he recommended Vergies. And we were not disappointed. Even in the bad, snowy weather, the parking lot was full (usually a good sign). My wife had the home made stew... More

When you first pull up and see an Adult book store on the one end of the building... and a Chinese Massage place as the other neighbor... you think.. what? Inside is clearly an old, family friendly establishment. It was a very busy Friday night. We went for the fish and chips during lent. I suspect it was pre battered... More

Did I come on the wrong day then all the reviewers. This place should be shut down it is so gross. RUN AWAY!!!! Absolutely GROSS slop worse than cafeteria food in the 80s with stale chips and tacos and SERIOUS mystery meat. I haven't eaten food this nasty ever. It is like they took the expired rejects from the dollar... More

After a long day on the road Virgies was a great way to end our day. There's nothing fancy about this place, just plain good old fashioned, homemade New Mexican food. Try the cheese crisp! We had a couple of the combo plates and even bought 2 dozen flour tortillas to take home. $3.50 a dz and their huge!

"Oh, no it's Mexican" we said as we pulled in. We were just not up for another bout of Mexican food. We are so glad we stayed. This was all family owned and home made fresh New Mexican food. Not a chain, not from freezer to plate. Really really good and the sauces were authentic from New Mexican cuisine. Even... More

We drove in from Kansas City and when we hit Gallup we were pretty hungry. We checked into our hotel and asked where was a good place to eat. They sent us to Virgie's. Both my wife and I tried different things and everything we ate was wonderful. The waiter was very helpful and took great care of us.. The... More
