Wonderful Mexican food in a funky town!

We were told by several peopl at the Ghost Ranch to go check this restaurant out! So glad we did! The best chili relleno in the history of ever. The owner and her family run the place and are so nice. Take your own bottle be they do not have a liquer license.

We're glad they did too! We just love finding out about these little "hole in the wall" places that serve up authentic mexican food. The service was really good and genuine. I loved the sopapillas they serve up with the meal. Excellent combination! Didn't do me any favors towards my waistline…but what the heck - I'm willing to cheat every... More

Driving into El Rito, New Mexico, a backroad intersection with a dot on the map, you could drive right by El Farolito if you weren't looking for it. Hidden on the side of the road between garages and run down houses, you probably wouldn't stop much less go in to eat if you hadn't read about this wonderful family run... More

There's a reason Jan and Michael Stern Sunset magazine and other sing praises of this homey little place. With no more that 18 seats in a ramshackle storefront in El Rito (population less than 10% of a Beyoncé concert), this family-owned dive turns out the best northern New Mexican food in the state. Tou can get enchiladas with one of... More

After hearing people rave about this tiny restaurant for years I finally had the opportunity to go in search of it and am very glad I did. It is a unique treat. Hand prepared New Mexico food that is served hot, fresh and delicious. The service is very friendly making one feel right at home. Could easily have a wait... More

A friend told us we had to drive to El Farolito from Santa Fe as it was one of those great hole-in-the-wall places. It was a spectacular drive and the funky little town is interesting. El Farolito has been around for a long time. It seems the original owner's descendants are running it now. The food was good, not the... More

During a recent stay at Ojo Caliente Spa, we ate at El Farolito after it was highly recommended by several people who live in the area. Do not be put off by the appearance of the building because inside you will encounter some of the best Mexican food in New Mexico. Everything was superb from the guacamole, salsa, chips, enchilada,... More

A bit off Highway 84 northeast of Abiquiu lies a tiny restaurant where I had the best Mexican food ever. Delicious food and good service. No cards or alcohol, but the prices are very reasonable. Well worth the little side trip.

Part of the charm is this little 12 or 14 foot wide Adobe building that might be a hundred years old. Might be a bit doubtful at first but not to New Mexicans! When seated where the kitchen can be seen one will observe everything is being prepared freshly per order. No pre-sliced tomatoes in pans, etc. Th use of... More

Outstanding food in an out of the way, easy to miss, cash only restaurant. Its also BYOB. The chile rellenos, sopapillas, and chile verde are all outstanding.
