Fascinating place and tasty food

First of all El Rito is quite a place. It is pretty remote, and in a beautiful spot. The drive up, especially from the north, is really scenic. El Rito is small but there is a big school building; and some intriguing old hacienda-like buildings at the north end of town. Old in NM means OLD... read more

We have been here before but never had the breakfast burrito. This was a choice that sounded a little lighter-surprise it was not. However it was tremendous with the green chili on it. The business doesn't look like much but the food is excellent and reasonably priced. The restaurant is family run and very friendly. It is very near Abique... More

This is a very small restaurant - only about eight tables - so you might have to be friendly and share if a large group comes in. It's all in keeping with the charm of this place. El Rito is a cute little town, reminiscent of being in old Mexico. El Farolito is basic fresh prepared Mexican food with excellent... More

I never would have stopped at a dive like this, but it was so highly recommended to us by some nice people from Denver that we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were thrilled and can't wait to go back again and again. The food is uniformly good, but the standout item is... More

A hole in the wall you'd pass if you didn't know better. There's a reason Santa Fe residents drive the hour plus to come here for lunch or dinner. Their green chile sauce is unique and the best in New Mexico. Come early or you will find yourself on the street outside waiting as this place is tiny. Cash only... More

This place has been in business since 1985 and continues to turn out outstanding Mexican/New Mexican food. Family run and operated since its inception and now on its third generation of friendly competent folk. Restaurant is small with only about 8 tables and from the exterior doesn't look like much. The food, though, is worth writing home about. Full of... More

Don't expect much, except: Great food, reasonable prices, and nice people. You want real, good, northern New Mexico dining? You go here. Simple as that. No plastic. They close early. Call first. Service good, but when this small, family-run restaurant gets packed, the wait for food might be a little long. We go often, for lunch and dinner, and start... More

Anytime I'm within 50 miles of El Rito I make a special trip to El Farolito. Everything they serve is a home run.

We found this tiny restaurant in the retro town of El Rito after a ride through the Carson National Forest. Both my husband and I agree that this was by far the best New Mexican food we have eaten! We chatted with Dominic the chef, who with his sister, now own the family restaurant. Seating is limited, so a large... More
