Dec. 14, 2009 Dinner, our first night in Taos, is at El Meze in the beautifully restored [--]. Chef Frederick Muller, author of La Comida, The Foods Cooking and Traditions of The Upper Rio Grande, and Annette Kratka have partnered to create a unique dining experience at El Meze. This is not your ordinary dinner fare. We share “small plates”... more

This is a wonderful and sophisticated addition to the restaurants in the Taos area. Fresh ingredients, simple, but original preparations. The grilled romaine appetizer and the grilled trout entree are both spectacular. more

El Meze, 1.5 Miles north of the Taos Plaza is a fine restaurant offering tasty dishes with north-African/ northern New Mexico spices served in a old Hacienda. We enjoyed the "small dishes" of frites coated with herbs, sauteed mushrooms with Spanish chevre, buffalo carne adovada ribs (ribs in a red chile smoked paprika sauce), a main course of cod in... more

We dined there during our stay at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House on the recommendation of their chef supreme and boy was she right on the money. It was our favorite in Taos, period. Muller came out after dinner and asked "Are you the Millers from San Francisco?" and we replied yes. He talked about the restaurant, his background, the... more

As residents of Santa Fe we are used to good food. However, after a friend recommended EL MEZE, we decided to try it out and were astounded by the quality of the food. Dishes were extremely flavorful, uniquely and subtly spiced and very fresh and clean. They were also sensitive to food allergy issues (one of us was gluten intolerant)... more

We had four starter plates--Mussels were superb, as was everything. Most unusual dish was the grilled hearts of romaine lettuce with a delicious light lemon dressing. Superb! more

The dress code is casual but the dining experience was one of the best. Fred Muller is an exceptional chef of good food and presentation. I especially enjoyed the Fresh Mussels, and my favorite dessert was the lemon Mousse and raspberry napoleon. The food was so good that we ate there four nights to try other plates. They have a... more

We live in Santa Fe, which is a restaurant town, but had one of the best meals of the year at El Meze last weekend. We especially loved the mussels and sauteed mushrooms! The atmosphere was charming and romantic, the wine selection affordable, and our bill for two came to $82!!! Our waiter was affable, and the chef/owner, Frederick Muller,... more

Many excellent restaurants in Taos that we love but wanted to try El Meze after reading reviews. It exceeded expectations with wonderful service and food choices not normally found elsewhere - all were wonderful. We did the Tapa grazing and enjoyed all of our choices. The Buffalo Tamales with Green Chilis were to die for. Wine selection was also very... more

There are several fine restaurants in tiny Taos, New Mexico, where I own a 2nd home and spend a good deal of time. Frederick Muller’s El Meze, however, stands apart. My first meal at El Meze was such an enjoyable experience that, driving home with the top down to enjoy the cool night air, I phoned my wife back in... more
