Certificate of Excellence 2013
Cuisines: European, Continental
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch, Reservations, Late Night
Description: Nestled in the Trading Post Complex on the corner of Caledon and Myburgh Street is the Restaurant Chez Max serving quality continental fare owned by Candice and Scott Murray since January 2006. Chez Max cuisine, explains Scott, is a mixture of classic and modern with a ‘bit of everything for everyone’. Some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes include The Ultimate Rosti, Veal Specialities, Pork Belly and Seafood. The Chez Max business philosophy is clear and unpretentious – much like the food. “In delivering simplicity,” says Scott. We understand that we must provide the best produce and service within traditional surroundings. A well considered wine list complements the menu and caters to all tastes designed with the flavours of the food in mind and fuelled by a desire to offer wines a cut above the average. Chez Max offers an excellent selection, and the friendly and well-trained staff, all of them who have been there a minimum of 3 years and more, which adds to a culture of community. (What we try to do here is make everyone that comes to Chez Max leave feeling contented and happy with what they have experience, explains Candice.

As a chef I am often disappointed when I go to a restaurant for dinner. Not so at Chez Max. My mother and I visited last Saturday evening and had a wonderful dining experience. Hostess and co-owner,Candice, was super friendly and efficient, making us feel instantly welcome and at home. The service was friendly, informative and quick. The wines on... More

We have been going to Chez Max for years, and it is always consistantly good. Yesterday we booked quite late in the day, and were really expecting them to be fully booked. However there was one table available inside, where we prefer to sit. It was a busy Saturday night, but nothing appeared to be rushed, and it was all... More

Food here was delicious and great portion sizes. Only reason I haven't given 5 stars is that there was no highchair for our 1 year old.

We visited Chez Max today, I chose the pork belly and it was 100% delicious. The best pork belly I have had from around the Cape in over a year - and I have tried quite a few! The crackling was wonderfully crisp with the beautiful pork flavour. Some can be fancifully air dried and lose the pork flavour. The... More

Christmas Eve at Chez Max was a most enjoyable evening for my family. The set menu catered for the traditional taste of roast turkey and Christmas pudding and an alternative of char-grilled fillet and iced Lindt chocolate parfait. The fillet was some of the best I have ever had and the choc parfait a perfect ending to the evening. This... More

On a wild, wet night we were given a warm welcome by the enthusiatic and knowledgeable staff. Despite the weather the restaurant was full and the atmosphere very pleasant. The food was fantastic, one of the best meals we have had anywhere. The meat in particular was tender and cooked to perfection. We had brought our own bottle of wine... More
