Beach vibe

Life doesn't get much better if you're sitting at Dunes, sipping some white wine on a lazy late Saturday afternoon and nibbling on some of their excellent nachos. Dunes has a very relaxed vibe to it and makes you feel like you're on holiday, even while you may be on holiday already.

I'm really surprised by the poor reviews of the Dunes. We are back in SA and as usual have come out to the Dunes several times for lunch. The service is always good, friendly and prompt, the food is very good and the location is amazing. I am sitting upstairs there as I write having just had a superb Chicken... More

Right on the beach at Hout Bay, the Dunes is casual and relaxed. Go for an early supper and sit outside to enjoy the sunset. Ask for the specials - when we went there was a Seafood Platter for two: calamari, mussels, lovely spicy fishcakes, prawns, a white fish (we asked for Kingklip but it varies) plus chips. It was... The Dunes Restaurant sits right on the beach in beautiful Hout Bay. If you arrive around 6PM the light is magical and you can stick your toes in the warm sand and enjoy a nice refreshing drink. Many stay on for dinner and the menu is varied but the food itself is only slightly above average. Salads could be a... More

Dunes is in my opinion the best place in Hout Bay to have a sundowner drink or a quick bite. You can see views of the mountains from one edge of the bay to the other, the service is consistently good and the food menu, while relatively basic is always fresh and well prepared. It's popular and has got a... More

Really in need of some sort of upliftment. Lackluster and dreary unlike the promising beginning. Great location - what a pity

Dear Sir, Thank you for your comment. I am however not sure what you are referring to as the "beginning"? I would love to find out what aspects you consider "in need of upliftment" and "dreary". Kind regards Rob More

After eating a hamburger for lunch in the Dunes Restaurant I have got an upset stomach and was sick for the rest of the day.The kitchen doesnt care for the qualitiy of the minced meat, which results in serious health problems! Not to accept for such a restaurant. My wife had a smoked chicken salat, which was ok....but the bottle of... More

Dear Sir, I’m sorry to hear that you were ill. It’ is unfortunate that you did not contact me directly. With the necessary information I would have been able to investigate possible factors relating to your illness. I cannot refute your statement but I find it strange that an item of which we sell a lot would cause a problem.... More

The setting is stunning, especially on a lovely evening such as the one when we were there. Clearly popular with families as there is loads of space for kids to hang out in the front garden. But the food was only OK (calamari starter, catch of the day - yellow tail and cod and chips). The fish was fresh but... More
