Very basic fish and chip shop with outside seating area. The hake and chips was delicious, one of the best we have had in South Africa, all the better for the fact that they actually have malt vinegar, not to be found everywhere with fish and chips in South Africa.

Went last night to Fish on the Rocks. Very much a take away place with wooden benches to sit on. Need to pay 50c for a paper plate. Service is quick.. food is done quick. Not sure if we were supposed to specify flavours as such as nobody told us. Don't expect waiters.. very much a self service. On the... More

Eating freshly fried fish and chips outdoor in front of the water and the mountain was really a treat.

THE GOOD: Reasonable prices Nice views Decent food THE NOT SO GOOD: Chips/ French Fries are not to my liking. No mayonnaise Pay for cups We stopped here on the day we arrived in Cape Town, the fish and calamari is good, the prawns were really tasty. The chips are not crispy enough for us but this is a South... More

I am a regular in Hout Bay and often get a fish take away. The best thing is that I can phone them and place my order without any questions being asked. At the agreed time I make my way and the take a way is ready. Well presented and hot. The other good thing is that they are flexible.... More

Short and sweet.. Here goes. Awesome food, nice setting but the rudest rudest service ever. Really not impressed with the attitude we received. Just for that, we will not return. We would rather go to the take out at wharside grill where you always get friendly service

What a great menu! The freshest, and tastiest Seafood, freshly prepared while you soak up the beautiful views of Houtbay. We ordered a few items on the menu, and everything was perfect. The Grilled Yellowtail Fish needs an honorary mention, it is served with Salad & Chips. Most definitely best value for money, as the quality is incomparable, and the... More

Fish on the Rocks offers simple British style Fish and Chips - but better. The Hake and Calamari are wonderfully fresh and plentiful and cooked to order. The Kingclip whilst tasty was fresh but a little tougher than the Baby Kingclip I had had previously. There are seats / benches outside under parasols to eat your food or a 1... More

We visit Fish on the Rocks every time we are in Cape Town. It is a no-frills, down to earth well-run business. The seasfood is freshly caught and is prepared while you wait. There are benches and tables to eat on and the views are wonderful if you sit on the side of the restaurant. If you want trendy and... More

The calamari and chips were much to oily for me, though the snoek my wife had was pretty good. It's a takeaway place with some benches more than anything else, but is very popular with locals. Best part of it was soaking up the atmosphere that they generated.
