This restaurant should be at the top of your list when in the area. Food was absolutely divine. Service excellent and setting absolutely breathtaking.

Visited La Motte for a lazy Sunday lunch, an hours drive from Cape Town. Modern decor complemented by interesting Pierneef pieces add to the stylish but casual atmosphere. Service courteous and friendly, but food was the star of the show. Venison roulade was superb, as was the chicken crown and sugar cured venison loin. Soufflés for desert were absolutely perfect!... We had a late lunch following a morning of wine tasting in the valley. The menu is quite exciting, although very rich choices. The entrees were exceptional - the citrus cured salmon was lovely, delicate and beautifully presented. I enjoyed my filet which was perfectly cooked with a lovely group of flavours. Despite being warned by the waitstaff that the... More

Nice dinner with a group of friends. Good food and nice wine pairings in a stylish dining room. The Kudu was disappointing and we were offered to change for the excellent beef at no charge.

The drive into La Motte estate really has the WOW factor: absolutely beautiful. The decor of the restaurant makes it fitting for special occasions, although it is by no means overly formal. Staff were friendly and helpful although not always as knowledgeable of the menu as one might expect. Food was uniformly delicious. Would definitely return when in Franschhoek again.

All the little details you are looking for in a good restaurant. Mouth watering dishes, a long selection of their wines including different vintages with write ups of what they thought of the years served in decanters, complimentary little dishes in between courses but most importantly quality. The only criticism was that all 3 of us who ate steaks were... More

We became parents to a beautiful baby boy 3 months ago and we planned a trip to Franschhoek as our first night away from baby. We mentioned this when we made our dinner reservation at Pierneef and upon arriving was greeted by the maître d' with a glass of bubbles on the house "to help you relax"... all new parents... More

Blown away by the scenery after driving through the gate! After recovering we had a wonderful lunch in the beautiful outside area of the restaurant.

An alarming drop in standards over the past year, to the extent that this was the only visit of the holiday to this hitherto great place. Not made to feel particularly welcome on a windy lunchtime, we had to sit outside and choose from a severely limited menu. Service was then haphazard to say the least. Pie of the day... More

Another return visit, be it only twice a year, says it all as there is plenty of competition in and around Franshoek. The visit starts at the entrance gate which then opens out onto a sweeping drive up though the vines to the car park with stunning views of the mountains. Our visit was at lunch time, meaning 2 o/clock... More
