Really nice laid back place

This is a nice place to sit and watch the world go by. Really chilled atmosphere, good food and great service. You are also surrounded by several street with great shops and a wonderful view. Certainly a place I would have a glass of wine in just to take the load off your feet.

I yet have to be blown away by the food but Dutch East does have some stuff going for it. On a hot summer's day you can sit on the side walk and stare at the distant mountains and the people in the street under a large tree. In winter the fireplace in the centre brings warmth. The service is... More

After failing to get a table at a couple of other restaurants recommended in our guide book we called here without a reservation and luckily were able to get a table. The restaurant is very pleasantly decorated, busy but relaxed and serves a good range of excellent food. All staff were pleasant, friendly and attentive. The food and wine is... More

I remember wanting something different from a place I often visit.... being a cold rainy south African winters day. My and I looked from the outside in and it just looked so cozy, we warmly greeted by staff, atmosphere and a fire place burning quietly. Coffee was great, food uniquely different but what had me was the desert.... baklava(light philo-pastry)... More

The lentil and butternut squash curried soup is fabulous. Don't miss it. Everything was delicious and interesting. This a must visit.

Lovely restaurant, right on the main strip of Franschhoek so extremely accessible. After a days wine tasting we wanted dinner but hadn't booked anywhere. Popped in here and thankfully they had a free table. Hadn't read anything about this place in advance despite looking at Franschhoek restaurants. Lovely place. Good service, and good value for money. We both had steak... More

One of the best spots to eat in Franschhoek town, there is clear reason why you have to book ahead of time, but definitely worth it! The popularity of Dutch East speaks for itself, the kitchen is run exceptionally well, the meals are well presented and plates are executed with precision and finesse. In particular the steaks - cooked excellently.... More

This is not as pretentious as other restaurants in the town, but it serves good food at reasonable prices. There is a Butchers on the premises who serves quality meat at good prices and if you are self catering this is the place to buy meat. The restaurant does basic meals, well cooked and well presented at a fair price.... More

We ate at this restaurant last night, and really enjoyed our meals. There was an extremely eclectic assortment of patrons, and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the couple that was seated behind us. We sat inside, as it was windy outside, and I was pleasantly surprised with the great atmosphere. Myself and my husband each ordered the 250g filet, his... More
