Excellent Choice

This spot had excellent ambiance and the very best waiters. The food is totally unusual and unless explained you would not know what you were eating. An excellent fusion of tastes and design. A must do but not a place you would eat at too often.

We had the most stunning experience. The chef prepared a separate food journey for my fiance who is fructose intolerant. We have dined in some epic world class restaurants and this is up there with Vue de monde, Attica and Brae in Australia. La cote st jacques, Vista mar, La grenouillere in France but with the local south african produce,... More

we went after the valentines weekend and spend the night at le Quartier Francais and had dinner at the tasting room. The people where extremely friendly and helpful explain the menu and the concept. The service was superb and they went out of their way to make our evening special. The food was delicious and the combinations where different and... More

You may need to book up well ahead to reserv your table (although they only accept reservations one month ahead), but the experience is well worth it. The service is excellent and the eight course tasting menu, paired with wines is outstanding. Prepare to be surprised with the wonderful melange of tastes and textures! Not to be missed if you... We've been here three times and it never disappoints. We have been to many higher rated restaurants across Europe but keep returning to this one and I dare say it's my favourite in the world. This time I was pregnant, and they went to the trouble of pre-preparing what was supposed to be a fois gras biscuit so that I... More

The layout and decor are very chic and the waiter service sincere and first class. The 8 courses with some additional appetisers too leave you feeling ready to burst! The dishes all cooked and explained carefully very much high end cuisine and as meals should be in this quality of restaurant. As we were a 2 we got different dishes... More

We had mixed feelings about our meal here. Firstly the male and female dinners get different dishes for the at least half the courses! The plus side is we got to try more dishes but we failed to see the logic. With one exception the courses were tasty but tended towards the more avant garde school of cuisine rather than... More

I've thought long and hard before giving The Tasting Room only an average score. There's no doubt that Margot Janse is a superb and creative chef and the current decoration of the room is simple, minimalist and relaxing. We've eaten here several times before over the years and each time it is different. Sorry to be rude but each time... More

We had a great time at the Tasting room on a recent visit to Cape Town. A unique and interesting dining experienced was promised and indeed delivered. 8 courses with well chosen wine pairings made for an excellent evening of trying new things in new ways. Not every course was a knockout but the experience overall was top notch.
