My husband, I and our youngest son were in Franschhoek on a visit to celebrate his graduation. Someone recommended The Tasting Room and we thought why not? What a pleasant evening the three of us had there! We enjoyed the idea of the dishes being a surprise and not having to decide what we wanted to eat. Bradley, our waiter,... More

Tried to book from UK 30 days prior to the date I wanted to dine (as per their process). Unfortunately 3 days later I received a response to advise the restaurant was fully booked on the evening we wanted, maybe if they had actioned my email on the day and not 3 days later I would have stood a better... A family member had eaten here on a previous trip to South Africa and had so strongly recommended it that we had to try it, and reserved a table on-line while in the UK before we left. We were greeted at the door and taken immediately to our table with the greatest of courtesy. The waiter, the under-manager and the... More

We have to concur with the review written by Mr & Mrs Rab on 9th Dec. we too ate here that evening and despite the hype, the experience left us feeling rather deflated and very disappointed. Perhaps we were rather unfairly, pitting it against previous experiences at some world renowned restaurants (e.g. Heston's Fat Duck) but we found the food... More

The main reason we go out to dine is to enjoy good tasty food. I'm sorry to say that apart from the hors d'oeuvres and dessert the rest of the tasting menu felt as though we were taking part in an experiment. The chefs are no doubt very skilled but have got carried away with their own desires to "play... More

During our last visit to South Africa in 2011, a family member recommended the Tasting Room, but we were unable to secure a reservation, as the place is booked months in advance. This time we could plan ahead and combined it with a stay at the hotel to secure a reservation. I was disappointed to see that the Tasting room... More

Having spent the last 10 days eating our way through South Africa's top ten restaurants we luckily got in at the last minute to the number one on the list. The Tasting Rooms certainly lived up to it's reputation & more. The African inspired surprise menu was cleverly thought out and consistently executed. Each dish was a treat for all... More

The surprise menu at LQF is one of life's great culinary experiences. Fine dining should be about magic, mystery and the celebration of something truly important to the chef and kitchen. Here it's an ongoing celebration of a great nation, showcasing the talent of the kitchen and that of the wineries which so ably pair the food, the fabulous produce... More

A definite must….if one has the money to splurge. It is the ultimate dining experience. It's a very interactive and entertaining experience which feeds all the senses. The waiters are knowledgeable and have a good sense of humour. What I like about this restaurant is there is a story behind every course. The waiters sometime bring out the ingredients, like... There were so many things I loved about our Tasting Room experience, but what really made it special was the education about ingredients that are unique to South Africa which were featured in several of the dishes. We also enjoyed our time in the bar before the dinner which offered several infused/specialty liquors.
