I live in Franschhoek last two years and I like to give a chance to the places where I had bad 1st time experience. To Grande Provence I have given 3 chances all turned out to be terrible and disappointing. Following three are my experience: 1. Service: One of the worse I have experienced in Franschhoek restaurants of same caliber.... More

The staff was great. The food was very nice and very uncomplicated, which I enjoyed, since many of today’s restaurants often overdo it, they simply try too hard, and that was not in any way the case here. They just keep it simple, yet tasty and pleasant to look at. When we were there, unfortunately it was extremely hot inside... More

I booked the Jonkershuis venue for my husband's 50th birthday. We and 13 of our family and friends, all from the UK, had come to South Africa to celebrate this special evening. This was total perfection and the most fantastic evening. The Jonkershuis location, food and service were first class and everyone who came to the meal highly praised the... More

walk into the restaurant at dusk, through the atmospheric gardens to be met by attentive staff with a fine knowledge of both the food cooked and the wine on offer. The menu was extensive and the food well presented. A wonderful experience

We have eaten at Grande Provence each year for the last three years. Sadly tonight's food was as not as good as on previous occasions. Good - but not the expected 'exceptional'. It was quite clear that other diners were also unhappy with the food. Maybe we should have chosen not to visit on a Sunday night? The service and... More

This was our second meal in Franschhoek and it was a complete disappointment. When your expectations are high and the standard is average you feel short-changed. Good things: the service, the ostrich leather comfortable couch. Bad things: the food. The food was style over substance. Starter I had the 'chicken and egg.' This was an under seasoned chicken mousse around... More

Beautiful setting, lovely friendly service but the food was bland and over salted. I got the impression each dish was plated up and the warmed up before it was sent to the table. The trout starter was tasteless apart from the grains of salt, the lamb main was ready meal standard and the desert was a watered down ice cream... More

This was our second visit in the last 12 months. The food and wine were excellent. The service was great. The restaurant is very stylish.

This used to be a superb restaurant which we frequented often during visits to Franschhoek, but those times are well and truly over. Starter took 30-40 minutes to arrive. Wine just never came. The waitress was nowhere to be seen and seemed bemused that we enquired about the missing starter and wine. The main was a mess beyond comprehension -... More

We used to love GP, but the shine faded a bit in the last couple of years. We hoped this visit might be better. This is an upscale venue, which looks the part. They are keen to sell 4/5 course meals, and we are equally keen to eat two courses. First problem is the seating - the banquettes, which some... More
