Having just eaten, and I use the term loosely, at a local BBQ place, and been seriously disappointed, I reminisce about our frequent trips to Hot Rods. Not close, not convenient, but worth the trip. Excellent , eclectic, comfort food menu. Friendly, attentive service; great bar and tasty food. Best BBQ this side of Memphis. Go there. You'll enjoy it.

My husband & I tried Hot Rods for lunch one day when we were jonesing for BBQ. We were not disappointed. Brisket sliders and hush puppies were great. We were telling some friends about it and they complained that we hadn't brought them with us. So we got a group of 13 people together and went back for dinner on... More

We just made our fifth visit to Hot Rod's BBQ in Wharton, NJ. I felt it was time to write a review. We discovered Hot Rod's earlier this summer and it has become a family and friend favorite. We live about 45 minutes away otherwise we would go every week. The food is AWESOME as is the staff. We have... More

I took my family out here one night for dinner. Greatest smoke in town hands down! These guys had really awesome service and the waitresses fell in love with our kids, which was kinda nice, they got them occupied for a while and out of our hair... lol... But seriously, my wife had the fish and chips, she said it... More

Went there on a Friday night, around 6:30. No problem getting a table for 7 people (2 kids). Service was friendly and the waitress knew the menu and was very helpful. I liked that the wait staff helped out each other with bringing out the food, clearing plates and refilling drinks. We started with appetizers - bacon wrapped brisket ends... More

I live in Wharton and visit Hot Rods on a regular basis. The guacamole is excellent and their ribs are great. Their baked potatoes are rubbed with salt and smoked and very yummy. The coleslaw and potato salad are homemade and wonderful. The homemade warm corn bread at the table is very tempting. But the best is their Margaritas. The... More

Pretty poor - food, ambience, decor everything. Only the service was prompt and friendly (hence the rating of 2 and not 1). Went on a Saturday evening expecting a heavy crowd, specially after reading all the reviews on various sites. However, all the crowd was around the bar counter and only 2 of the tables were occupied and rest all... More

There are many reviews that give this a five star rating, but I think that is a bit much. While the waiters are good, the food is overpriced, particularly in this area, it is not special or even very good, the portions are small, and wait time for food is significant. We had Buffalo wings which were delivered within 3... More

We found this place late in the evening. I remembered reading good reviews from several NJ magazines and newspapers. The BBQ was okay - we arrived right before closing, so the food might have been fresher/less dry earlier in the day. Both the brisket and the pulled pork needed the additional sauce to get them moist enough for the sandwich.... More

They do all their own smoking on premise. Ribs are good, chicken excellent. Try the smoked meatloaf -- very unusual and tasty. Pulled pork sandwich a good bet for lunch as are the onion rings and hush puppies.
