Consistently delicious!

I've lived in this town for over 30 years and just discovered this restaurant 2 years ago. Ok, it's in a strip mall, tucked in the corner, but the dishes are authentic. No duck sauce, mustard & fried wontons....not even soy sauce on the table. You don't need it!! Prices are really reasonable. BYOB... read more

Ethnic restaurants come in two flavors - those where people of that ethnicity will eat, and those where people of that ethnicity will never darken the doors. Cheng Du 23 was filled with Chinese families enjoying their evenings. This had been recommended to me by a (Caucasian) local as a good place to enjoy Chinese food. It was! I had... More

Bottom Line: Title says it all. Avoid for dim sum. Details: We decided to try this place after our favorite restaurant closed. We arrived right when it opened since the place we usually go to fills up very fast and we didn't want to end up waiting in line. This turned out to be unnecessary as there were only 3... More

Order the Szechuan dishes. They do other regional dishes as well but their Szechuan food is a cut above. All the spicy flavors desired but often not available at many "Chengdu/Szechuan" restaurants. No pre-order required for Peking Duck! Excellent sauteed vegetables with or without garlic since the almost everything is made to order. Welcome is warm and service efficient. But... More

One of the most amazing chinese restaurants, authentic and well priced. The service is also gret and friendly, and a pleasant atmosphere. The flavors are quite different than any other Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at. You know it must be good when most of the clientele is Asian!

I greatly enjoyed Cheng Du 23. We were a bigger party and ordered many dishes. To start we order steamed dumplings and cold noodles. The dumplings tasted fresh and the cold noodles were good as well. The general tso's chicken was excellent. The sauce was not too heavy and neither was the batter on the chicken. The chow fun with... More

This restaurant offers a very large menu that includes authentic Szechuan dishes as well as Chinese American favorites. The services is often indifferent, like many Chinatown restaurants, but the food is worth it. We especially like the dishes listed under Authentic Szechuan cuisine, such as Gong baoji ding (diced chicken sauteed with peanuts & Szechuan Pepper with spicy black vinegar... More

Although we've tried many Chinese restaurants in NJ, Cheng Du 23 is one of the best! The food is always fresh, nicely prepared and well presented. They prepare each dish to our liking with just the right amount of seasonings. Great family restaurant too.
