I love this sort of pub, with the beers (and whiskeys) listed in categories. Not a beer-snob feel, though. The menu is interesting, not just "pub grub," but I found my fish tacos had just ordinary ingredients. I will check it out again though!

Referred by the owners of the B&B in Stanhope, we drove about 10 minutes to Salt in nearby Byram, NJ. The atmosphere is casual, like a tavern in a ski area, with casual staff "find yourself a table, anywhere" and a great beer selection. The Wednesday special is a flight of four beers, the best of which was a chocolate-y... More

Salt Gastropub is on highway 206 just as you are leaving Byram. It has a large selection of beer with about 10 on tap; 9 of which are interesting rotating micros. The other is PBR for the low price of only $2. They also have a long list of beer in bottles Their food is well prepared and represents an... More

Excellent food and service! The meat in the mixed grill on the bar menu was melt in your mouth tender and full of flavor. The kale salad was a large portion and very delicious. The Jameson cheesecake was slap your grandma amazing!!! Can't wait to go back next week.

I am somewhat cheating as I did not have a full meal here. We had a couple drinks, order of house fries and marveled at the pork loin meal being eaten next to me. Based upon our service, the smell and look of the food passing by me, and the great time everyone seemed to be having - I will... More

This is a small restaurant right off of 206 north of Stanhope. Very quaint. They have a large beer menu and the food is a step or two above bar food. Not all fried, they also offer noodle bowls, and other appetizer type meals. The service was good, don't let the abundance of tattoos bother you and you also have... More

Went for my son's celebration of first home closing. Food is above average with one of our dishes outstanding. My son got he mac and cheese as an appetizer, more hype than quality and not worth spending money on it. Service was a little sketchy with a young server who really did not seem that interested in her job. Prices... More

Okay, you're working in Centralish/Northernish New Jersey and you're tired of the yuppie restaurants and the chain gangs; so,where do you go? Salt! Self acclaimed NJ's first gastropub It seems like it is located out in the styx next door to the NJ Devil but it's right off of I-80 and Rt. 206. I dined there two nights in a... More

I guess I can begin with my wife's first words as we exited after dinner, "wow, that was truly horrible!" We likened it to a PA resort we spent a weekend at 20 years ago, as that's how far back we have to go for a comparably bad dining experience. Last night we ate in Stanhope's #1 rated restaurant. No way... More
