We have eaten sushi around the country and there is none better than what is offered at Shumi! The surroundings are a little run down but the food is unmatched. Expect higher prices than other NJ sushi bars but you will pay half of what you would in NYC and the quality of the food will be better! Sit at... More

Your first instinct at the door is that you found a hole in the wall. Its going to be authentic and well worth it. Dozens of Zagat ratings displayed on the wall. Once you get your order, reality will set in. Its a gimmick!! My husband ordered Teriaki. His dish came sizzling but all that was under one medium size... More

This small restaurant has stood the test of time! I have been eating he for over 10 years. The owner chef is focused on delivering the best fish in a pleasant environment. It's location in the back of what is euphemistically called "an indoor office mall" may be difficult to find the first time but his loyal following has its... More

As this is probably the best sushi in NJ, I still go by at least once a year, even though I have moved away from the area and it is a long drive. Chef Ike noted that I look very serious when I eat his sushi, especially his hand rolls. I told him that I want to savor every bite.... More

Excellent sushi and sashimi with variety and quality carefully selected and prepared by owner. Monkfish liver, sweet shrimp and seasonal specialties often available. Chef takes time to prepare, so do plan to stay awhile and relax. BYOB. Leave your sake or chop sticks for your next visit. Expect great taste, not super sized tasteless fish that seems to be offered... More

Good food good prices good service good times. I would definitely go back there. Their katsudon specials are good as well as the shumi ramen.

I cannot definitively say this is the best sushi/sashimi available in NJ but only because I have not tried everyone of the others. Every time we come to NJ we try to eat at Ike's bar. The food is sensational. Raw fluke "pizza", grilled hamachi jaw, steamed monk fish livers, platter of the freshest sashimi chosen by Ike or Jack... More

As a prior reviewer here said- please don't try Shumi. Don't go here. This is one of those places that would be ruined by overexposure, or by renovations. Prepare yourself for dated decor in a drab, somewhat dismal building. The sushi is, however, the best I have found in NJ, and among the top sushi places I have eaten at... More

If only one chef working at sushi bar TURN AROUND AND LEAVE!!! We could not get any service for the nearly hour that we sat there. The sushi chef kept filling orders coming in from the wait staff. He told us he was too busy to help us. We were not walk-ins; we had a reservation. Why would a place... More
