Three dining options: First, The original StageHouse Restaurant, offering fine dining in an elegant county inn setting. Built in 1737 this historic inn boasts many small dining rooms with a fireplace in each room. The Stage House Restaurant offers an ala carte menu every day. Next, The Tavern at the Stage House, which serves up Rustic American fare in a more casual setting. Newly renovated with a new 35 seat bar, a cool little club house and the best Burger in Town. Lastly, The Patio at the stage house, which is a huge outdoor bar and dining room offering either menu. Reservations are only accepted for the fine dining restaurant, the others are first come first serve.

Consistently Good

I have been to The Tavern on many occasions. In the nice weather, they have a lovely outdoor eating area. Inside, a few years ago they transformed a smallish area into a great casual eating area with a very active bar crowd. Their burgers, sandwiches and entrees are always delicious. Service is... read more

The food was good but the service left a little to be desired. It was a little too slow for me. Also, the restaurant was crowded and we were seated near the bar and it was too noisy, I will go back because the food was good.

It's a bit of a fancy place. The food is well prepared and tasty, the service is nice and polite. It's an institution in town so if you live around here and haven't been, then it's time to visit.

My family and I eat here probably twice a month. The food is a little better than average. With that said though great place in the warmer months outside seating . Service is pretty good as well. I would say worth a try.

I loved the Stage House over the years but service is very unpredictable. Food is very good and the outdoor dinning area is a Scotch Plains institution. Service is the issue here. You never know what type of service you will get. Delays in drink orders, incorrect food orders, and long waits for everything is unfortunately the norm. It's a... More

Second visit - this time for dinner. Parking lot was full but we were seated right away in the main dining room. Salmon was cooked perfectly - moist and tender. Asparagus was a little overdone. Good draft and bottle beer menu. Good service. A popular local place that is a little off the beaten path but worth a visit.

this restaurant is great for lunch and dinner. Located in an old stagecoach tavern, the rooms are all different from very cozy to large. Food is very good and reasonably priced. Their burgers are great! The staff are very friendly and attentive. Love it!

Food is now merely ok. Portions are smaller, more likely that your French fries are cold, staff not as attentive. My expectations may be high because for several years the place was great. It's still pretty, with a pleasant suburban crowd of locals. But it seems to me that it started slipping around the time they opened their second resturant. I... More

This place was an old stagecoach stop. The ambiance is really nice. We were seated in a room with a fireplace. Food is good and reasonably priced. I come here often for good food and company. Highly recommended!
