A local favorite on the highway

The Fireplace opened nearly sixty years ago, and it has been a mainstay on Route 17 North in Paramus ever since. It's easy to get to from both sides of 17. Most of the diners look like locals, although it might attract some people passing through. They try to give off a 50's-early 60s vibe, but... read more

Wonderful selection of burgers and everyone is great. Between my son and I, over the past few visits, we tried every flavor of burger on the menu and all of them were very good. We enjoyed all of them. A side dish of onion rings makes a perfect match with the burger. This is a down to earth old fashioned... More

We ate lunch here after driving around my husband's hometown of Midland Park, NJ. He had the Jersey burger with Taylor ham and I had a grilled cheese. He had the onion rings and I loved the cole slaw which they make on the dry side which is the way I like it. I really like coming here since it... More

It's as good as it was back in the 60's! The best hamburgers in town! Casual atmosphere. Great for lunch or bring the kids for dinner. Very cool.

Returned to Ridgewood for my 50th HS reunion and had to stop at the Fireplace, a favorite gathering spot from the 60's. Little has changed, except the price of the burgers -- still very affordable however. Nothing better than a flame grilled, fatty burger. All the fixin's available to dress the burger including the same garlic pickle chips. So happy... More

Good place of a nice family meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Food is order at the counter and there are no waiter services. Plenty of parking and seating inside. There is also a upper level where pizza is served.

I love the fireplace! The greasy burgers are all part of the fun, so what's the deal with people complaining about them?? You are at a burger joint, nothing is going to be healthy, (and no, they don't have salads....)so just roll with it and enjoy. The Fireplace has a pretty broad menu that includes burgers, dogs, sliced steak sandwhich,... More

I was expecting a high end steak house after driving by many times on my travels to New York State and beyond. Imagine my surprise when I enter a Burger joint from the 50's and thought I spotted the "Fonz" at the far end of the dining hall. O.K., it's an interesting concept with three or four fireplaces and a... More

Not much has changed at the Fireplace since we started going there in the 60's as kids. It really is a place that will take you back to the innocence of childhood and the neighborhood burger joint from the 60's. The food is average but their homemade pickles are the best! There is ample seating capacity in the knotty pine... More

Two visits for lunch this trip. Fries were really good but way too much sauerkraut which drenched the hot dog bun. Fun place to eat at though if your from the area.
